LAFAYETTE, La., September 9, 2005, (LifeSiteNews.com) City-Parish President Joey Durel is warning individuals who are set on parading through his city streets in celebration of Southern Decadence that they will be arrested by police.
Encompassing 5 days of parades, pub crawls and the most public nudity and sexual activity of any North American gay event, the Southern Decadence festival is a New Orleans phenomena hosted by the citys gay community. This years celebration was definitively cancelled just days before its beginning by Hurricane Katrina. Though a few dozen tried to celebrate in New Orleans in spite of the damage and death around them, official organizers wanted to relocate to Lafayette instead.
Durel, quoted in The Advertiser, said that they did not have a permit and one would not be issued even if they ask. I dont think anybody would get a parade permit now, he said. Theres enough of a strain on our police department.
Durel was asked about removing permit restriction so that a sense of normalcy could be restored, to which he replied: I dont consider anything thats got the word decadence in it to be normalcy.
Perverts marching around naked probably wouldn't do much to restore a sense of normalcy.

LOL!

good deal.....tell these perverts to keep it to themselves
This guy knows the score.
Why don't they just have it in the French Quarter? The strip clubs are re-opening already.
Despite a significant public emergency, the pervs can't keep it zipped.
Disgusting.
Not of their persuasion.
Not of their persuasion.
It was a scene like something from a Fellini movie. Amid the death, the destruction, and suffering in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina a small parade behind a tattered rainbow flag made its way up Bourbon Street on Sunday.http://worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=46161The marchers said they were celebrating Southern Decadence. The group about two dozen people all said they lived in the largely gay French Quarter. Defiant, they said they were not about to flee the community despite orders from the city to do so.
Warning about link: There is no nudity but there are pictures of a gay parade, something you may not want on your computer, especially if you are at work.
I used to live in Lafayette, on Paris St. Loved it there. My wife is a Ragin' Cajun.
Lafayette ain't that kinda town.
Way to go Durel! Didnt Nagin write some letter (pre-Katrina) in support of how "wonderful" this event was for the city?
Some pols have courage, and some just try to play to everybody.

Nagin's world -- it fits.
Yes.
The event has been endorsed by Mayor Ray Nagin, who promoted the activities in a letter stating: "There is no place like this on Earth! Southern Decadence XXXII is an exciting event. We welcome you and know that you can anticipate great food, great music and great times in New Orleans."
What's blunt yet sharper than a razor?
Wideawake's comment, of course.
Barring that, those who didn't get the message from Hurricane Katrina will turn into pillars of salt. You're claiming the hurricane was some sort of divine vengeance? So how come Mississippi goit nailed, and the French Quarter was largely spared? Does the divine figure in question have bad aim?

Admittedly when I've been to Nawlins I've spent 99% of my time in the French quarter but half naked people in the streets was pretty normal there.
And for the record I don't have a problem with that. It's total nudity and sex that should be kept inside. Swimsuit level nudity in a resort area isn't a problem IMO.
