At least Biden admitted out of the box that he's over-matched, though I'm sure that won't tame his disbelieving ego.

yeah right - Biden doesn't believe it is true for a minute -he clearly thinks he is the smartest man in the room...and thinks he can lull Roberts into a false sense of security with his flattery...from what we have seen so far, I would wager he is instead correct in his false flattery and dead wrong in thinking that it will put Roberts off his guard.
