Such efforts pose a progressive alternative to vigilante-style neighborhood watch groups

I thought this was about rent-a-cops. This bozo doesn't even like neighborhood watch groups. What a bunch of ultra-leftist drivel.

>>>>Argenbright Security - operates at 14 airports - government audit revealed that the security firm was/is employing screeners with criminal records

Summary: OIG and FAA today released initial results of an ongoing review of background checks of security screeners employed by Argenbright Security, Inc. at 14 airports. The special security assessment was begun Friday, October 12 by joint teams comprised of officials from OIG and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

Preliminary findings of the assessment have found that:

1)Screeners at some airports had a prior criminal record that should have disqualified them from employment in security sensitive positions;

2)Investigators have also worked with the Immigration and Naturalization Service to determine whether employees who were foreign nationals had authorization to work in the U.S;

3) an individual was arrested October 13 at Dulles International Airport and charged with attempting to board an aircraft with a concealed pocketknife; and

4) a spot check of screeners of Dulles also found that 7 of 20 screeners were unable to pass the test required as a condition of working at checkpoints.

The PDF I posted in http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/1483299/posts?page=7#7 also doesn't like armed citizens.

But I found the paragraph I excerpted interesting.

Not sure where I stand on that...

I'm all for it. If I don't like the police chiefs ethics, politics, or service quality, I would be free to compete directly or shop around.

As is, I'm stuck with some political hack and a group of ever more hostile police.

"Are you filing a complaint? Some of us out here out side of "gated communities" find it peculiar that the "gated communities" in NO are left in tact and regular citizens are rounded up and their protection is removed from them and the regular citizen is forced to evacuate their property."

You would prefer it if EVERYONES property was looted, not just those outside of gated communities? Just like a communist to drag everyone down to the lowest common denominator.

People inside gated communities pay extra for protection from looters. To deny them the protection they have paid for is like denying insurance coverage to people who have paid for it simply because some other people have neglected to provide insurance coverage for themselves. Why would making everyone equally miserable make you happy if you are not a communist?

What did you find interesting about that? Rent-a-cops are poorly trained and poorly supervised here - they are poorly trained and poorly supervised there. Rent-a-cops outnumber real cops here - they outnumber real cops there. To me, the excerpt would have only been interesting if it had said that the "unofficial army" of 35,000 in Guatemala (which - HEAVENS!!! - outnumbers the official army!!!) all worked for one company, not 116.

"a communist", why is it that it is impossible to have a discussion without some automatically branding a person when they are without knowledge of what the person actually thinks?

I see no point in discussing what I actually think.

Any idea how many states have a clause like the LA Stat in post 1?

Couldn't say for certain, but a pretty safe assumption would be that all of them have a similar provision. This is, I suppose, what exempts the rent-a-cops from the disarm/remove diktats of NOPDS Compass in NOLA. Still doesn't make what's going on down there right...

Yet, you see nothing wrong with the people outside "gated communities" being looted blind, either by "unofficial" crooks, or "official" crooks, simply because the didn't pay some logo'ed corporation to protect their property, but instead felt they could, and should do it themselves in a more cost-effective manner. Now, what does that make you?

Guardsmark, Inc., the nation's fifth largest private security company, is hiring Kennedy to be its vice chairman. He starts April 1.

Appears that to discuss the WHY of things really upsets people.
Amazing that to seek the same protection as allowed by gated communities makes one a "communist".

Based upon the reaction of some, I am beginning to wonder if some think they are more protected than the rest. That has the communists thought process more than to question what the legal standing is for those outside of the "gated community".

Won't say its communist, per se, but it is most assuredly elitist...

What a bunch of ultra-leftist drivel.

Whenever you see the word “progressive,” you should immediately be alarmed.... terror threat level: orange. A term like “progressive alternative” is even worse... terror threat level: red.

>>>Argenbright Security - operates at 14 airports - government audit revealed that the security firm was/is employing screeners with criminal records

Mr. Berglund of Securitas said that his company bought into the American market expressly to change it. Securitas has also recently purchased security operations from Pinkerton and Loomis Fargo, a business formed by the 1997 combination of Wells Fargo and Loomis Armored Inc. Besides Securitas and ICTS -- which stands for International Consultants on Targeted Security -- the international invasion also includes Securicor P.L.C., a British company that last year acquired Argenbright Security from AHL Services of Atlanta to become the largest airport screening company in the United States.
