Steve Forbes, in an interview, said Bush should stop filling the strategic petroleum reserve for the forseeable future as a means of popping the energy bubble since the buying by the US govt. insures the speculators will remain profitable. Sounds like a good idea to me.
The U.S. doesn't have the ONLY strategic petroleum reserve.
So do China and many of the Western European countries. ALL have been filling their reserves during the past year, artificially boosting demand FAR beyond what has actually been being consumed.
Once all of these reserves are topped off, demand will fall significantly. Will that have an effect on the price of crude? Definitely.
Since the SPR was scheduled to be filled to 700 Million Barrels last month, this should not be too had to do.
