I dunno. Purchased with own money. 24-hour shift workers trying to get some substitute sun once in a while. Is this much different than if they'd bought a treadmill or some gym equipment?

This goes way beyond brown-nosing.
To: dagnabbit
I'm with you.
This doesn't sound like something they should have their hides tanned over.

..."Board chairman Chili Sanders, who approved putting the tanning bed on county property, says, "The employees paid for it, and I told them they could put it in there, but they cannot use it while they're on the clock,'' Sanders told his fellow board members. He adds, "Our employees sit for 12 hours, and they get kind of stiff, so they go in there after clocking out. They say it helps the heat on their back.'' Chili says the the heat helps their back? LOL!

one could argue one has health benefits, the other doesn't.
unless it's light therapy for depression or something, but this doesn't fit that category.

I really could care less what an employee does after he clocks out. On or off property.
But hearing over and over and over about 12 hour shifts, worn out employees, etc., etc., is the ultimate face slap to the tax paying public. Our nation is currently built on 8 hour work days because that's how long your mind and body can function as a unit before fatigue sets in. Any excuse working beyond 8 hours a shift puts the public at risk, creates employee restlessness and a higher then usual "attitude" problems in the course of their job.
I sure wouldn't want to have to rely on anyones 11th hours mind set for assistance in an emergency, including & especially medical personal currently working 24 hour shifts.

really depends on age, fitness, type of job, etc.
tell a Ranger he can't work more than 8 hours straight.
(or most in the private sector) the 8 hr "rule" is as antiquated (in most jobs save for OTR truckers, pilots, etc) as unions are.

Those tanning beds use quite a bit of electricity though.
