Still, some Republicans are so miffed at Doolittle that they'd like to bring up a resolution at the state party's convention in Anaheim next weekend in an effort to restrain him.

Activist Ted Costa, a champion of the proposition to hand the task of redistricting to an independent commission, went so far as to brand Doolittle "a poster child for why we should have redistricting."

The reason behind Arnie's push to redistrict is to knock down the gerrymandered areas the libs set up to favor their votes from their voters (and we know who they are)...we even have a new district which was CREATED just for illegals and Mexicans as to capture their votes --- your libs in action.

This state has been dessimated by libs. They need to go.

Doolittle has a safe district, as do pretty much every incumbent of either party. He doesn't want to run the risk of being placed in a more competitive district.

I support redistricting, but sympathize with Doolittle.

This is an effort by RINO Congressman Bill Thomas that he has been agitating with Costa to accomplish over the past 20 years. Thomas believes that with closer districts he can elect more libs and RINOs and get rid of true-blue conservatives like Doolittle and Pombo who have been a thorn in his for years.

Of course, Thomas is wrong. I believe that close races will give us MORE conservatives. But Doolittle is also right to be wary of any schemes that come from Costa and his cronies down in Bakersfield.

Burton, whose day job is with Costa's People's Advocate organization, dashed off a resolution to be voted on at the Republican convention in Anaheim that would have declared the party's support for Proposition 77. More to the point, it also urged all elected Republican officials to support the measure, "putting aside all personal interests and putting the will of the people first."

Burton's resolution was rejected. According to Republican Party spokeswoman Karen Hanretty, the resolution was made moot by action taken by the party's executive committee in June endorsing the redistricting proposition.

"The party has already unanimously supported redistricting," she said. She questioned why Doolittle was so determined to stand in the way of it.

Does the Executive Committee now constitute "Unanimous support" of the party?

Thanks for posting this article. The background information that flowed from it is worth emphasizing. The information is worth reposting throughout the campaign as a aid to novices.

It would seem, no matter where conservatives look on the strategery board, etched on the bottom of everyone of Schwarzenegger's chess pieces, is a moderating agenda, masked by obfuscating procedures.

The one item of grass roots reform that Schwarzenegger doesn't support, Prop 75, is the only one that appears to lack a hidden agenda. A surprise? I think not.

Does a conservative vote for Prop 76 and authorize borrowing 10 billion more dollars to finance the liberal whims of the legislature and the governor? Do conservatives vote for Prop 77 and assist political moderates to dethrone conservatives in traditionally conservative districts?
