Yes, but then a democrat was President, so no story was made in the press.

After Hugo and Andrew, federal aid wasn't withdrawn for a time due to hostile people shooting at cops, EMS, and helos.

a Republican president, a mostly-black, mostly democrat inner city area affected - for Democrats & their media allies, the perfect storm...unfortunately, they are really having to stretch the truth here to pin this on GWB and his administration.

This morn I made the mistake of turning on the tube and watching the latest news...BIG mistake! First thing outta the mouth of one of the reporters summarized Katrina this way, he said,"Katrina will also be remembered and Bush will also be remembered as the most hated president that came out of Katrina!" My television has been off since Friday! I'm sick of the "IT'S BUSH'S FAULT" "I HATE BUSH"..etc..crap while NONE, ZIP, ZERO, NADA, ZILCH of our party members have come and stood strong for the President!! Our party's PR machine is a totally travesty!

great article! Jack Kelly's usual excellence....

"Journalists who are long on opinions and short on knowledge have no idea what is involved in moving hundreds of tons of relief supplies into an area the size of England in which power lines are down, telecommunications are out, no gasoline is available, bridges are damaged, roads and airports are covered with debris, and apparently have little interest in finding out.
So they libel as a "national disgrace" the most monumental and successful disaster relief operation in world history."....

"A former Air Force logistics officer had some words of advice for us in the Fourth Estate on his blog, Moltenthought:
"We do not yet have teleporter or replicator technology like you saw on 'Star Trek' in college between hookah hits and waiting to pick up your worthless communications degree while the grown-ups actually engaged in the recovery effort were studying engineering."
bwahahahaha!!!!!

With regard to people like author Bob Herbert, you have to question both their scruples and their honesty.

This needs to be said again and again. Grownups know that this rescue effort has been tremendous, one for the books. They managed to get in, get control, and evacuate huge numbers and they did it in a week.

That may not seem very impressive to people who don't know who to do anything. Its very impressive to the people who do.

And its a reminder to the adults out there. In the event of a disaster, you should always have the wherewithal to stay in your house for a week without help. A few cans of pork-and-beans stashed out in the garage, some bottles of water, a generator would be nice if you can afford it. A shotgun and a couple boxes of shells wouldn't be a bad idea either.

Federal response to New Orleans was 'faster' than after Hugo and Andrew

Shhh...what are you trying to do? Bring some common sense into this media maelstrom?
