It is settled wisdom among journalists that the federal response to the devastation wrought by Hurricane Katrina was unconscionably slow.
"Mr. Bush's performance last week will rank as one of the worst ever during a dire national emergency," wrote New York Times columnist Bob Herbert in a somewhat more strident expression of the conventional wisdom.
But the conventional wisdom is the opposite of the truth..............

According to Landrieu, the President is against mass transit, therefore it is his fault these people could not leave. Bad, bad federal government for not providing Luxury Coaches for all these people, and cold MRE's for them to eat was just so insensitive. How dare they disrespect the fine people of New Orleans by making them eat the food that is only fit for our military.
It's Bush's fault? It's Bush's fault?
The whole nation should rise up, look the MSM in their one eye, and say, together:
"BHHAAAAAAAHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWW!"

"The federal government pretty much met its standard time lines, but the volume of support provided during the 72-96 hour was unprecedented. The federal response here was faster than Hugo, faster than Andrew, faster than Iniki, faster than Francine and Jeanne."
A better question -- which few journalists ask -- is why weren't the roughly 2,000 municipal and school buses in New Orleans utilized to take people out of the city before Katrina struck?
...hhmmmmm...
Thank you for posting this
The MSM disgusts me ALMOST as much as the racisct scumbags like Sharpton, Naggin and Jackson.
Correction, they are even worse.
I've been waiting for an article like this to appear in the MSM somewhere. About time.
Great article.

Help me out. I have heard at least twice that the Bush team started the finger-pointing. Is this true in any way, shape or form?
A friend suggested that every time a Dem or MSM type posits this crap those on the right should answer with the simple question," On what day should President Bush have done something which he failed to do?". This will make refuting Dem arguments quite easy and will throw the blame back to local authorities where it belongs.
I am truly disgusted an furious at the MSM.
The fact is that even if Bush and FEMA and the National Guard and military and other relief efforts had arrived in the devastated areas one hour after Katrina had left, the MSM and especially the NYT would have found the response to have been woefully inadequate.
The NYT and the MSM and the democrats are only good at one thing: blame games. They don't have any leadership skills and since theyr'e out of power the only weapon they have is to blame everybody else for anything and everything, mistakes or not, even if they, the democrats, caused them.
The reality is that even if mistakes were made, the devastation was so larege that the relief and rescue effort went very well The people who carried out those efforts should be thanked and congratulated for a job well done.
This doesn't qualify as an MSM appearance. Haven't you heard? The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is the official house organ of the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy (PPG is owned by evil mastermind Richard Scaife).
Absolutely not. The Bush haters came flying in screaming at Bush and the white house on nearly the first day.
This was posted on FreeRepublic and summarizes the press response from Wednesday, Aug 31.
They have the best information on what has been done and when, and how it compares to past events, and the loudest voice. Their risk-averse information strategy leaves a vacuum which is filled by the Dems and MSM. Bush, being in his second term, may think he has nothing to gain by airing self-serving statements in such a hostile media environment, but that approach sells his supporters out in the public debate and leaves them holding his water, while the MSM treats silence as an obvious sign of guilt, and gains an undeserved political victory by default.
I imagine Bush is thinking on many issues that fighting these pr battles is pointless when he believes history will vindicate him...unfortunately history is being written right now, and the corrections don't show up for quite a while, if ever.
More weekend editing.
A former Air Force logistics officer had some words of advice for us in the Fourth Estate on his blog, Moltenthought:
"We do not yet have teleporter or replicator technology like you saw on 'Star Trek' in college between hookah hits and waiting to pick up your worthless communications degree while the grown-ups actually engaged in the recovery effort were studying engineering.
"The United States military can wipe out the Taliban and the Iraqi Republican Guard far more swiftly than they can bring 3 million Swanson dinners to an underwater city through an area the size of Great Britain which has no power, no working ports or airports, and a devastated and impassable road network.
