People get the government they deserve. If it hadn't been Arafat, it would have been someone else just as bad. Arafat was just the public face of Arab Muslim stupidity, corruption, cowardice and terror. A symbol for a failed culture of death. He was a supremely evil man who led a supremely evil people.

And there was no way it was going to get better after he went to hell. There were too many people waiting for him to die so they could wet their stupid evil beaks.

Not necessarily. If Bush I and Peres (acting illegally per Israeli law) hadn't opted to bring a terrorist in to run the place, but had attempted to create home grown institutions and leaderships things might have turned out differently. Of course that might have taken a decade (longer now) had the effort been started in the early 90s, and the PLO was an established organization, after all.
