The film depiction of Flight 93 that crashed in Pennsylvania on 9/11/01 is being shown on the Discovery Channel at 9 pm Eastern time.
That is in less than one hour for people in all time zones that are on satellite feed.
A FReeper lost his Dad on this flight and wants everyone to watch.
He says it has some (but not all) of the real communications from the plane.
Standing by right now. I'll be watching this one.
My screen name is Churchillspirit and I am reporting for viewing.
I hope our fellow FReeper finds some comfort in the screening of the heroic efforts on that flight.
I saw this thread and have planned to watch since. Thanks for the reminder.
I did know a fellow whose son-in-law was a pilot of one of the two jets that were flown into the towers. he told me personally that his son-in-law had fought off a hijacker once before on a smaller plane in Florida, and that there is no way he would have sat still and let his plane be commandeered. he was certain the crew was violently overcome despite struggle to retain control of the aircraft.
His daughter was spearheading a bill to allow pilots to carry sidearms.
the people on the first 2 flights probobly thought they were going to be ransomed. In that instance I would probobly not fight if I thought I would get out alive either way.
if I found out that the terrorists were going to fly my plan into a building or kill me you had better believe I would be raising hell. Those terrorists don't want to see me mad cause I have an incredible mean streak.
well, allow me to clarify. being the father of one of the pilots' surviving spouses, he was intimately aware of the details of the investigations. suffice it to say that the conclusion come to was that the crew was overtaken by violence after putting up a fight. I won't be graphic out of respect for the surviving loved ones.
I've got the DVR set.
Mah DVR is all cranked up and ready to crunch into record mode. Three viewers in this household.
I hope it's going to portray the heroes as heroes, and makes no apologies for the animals. I haven't seen any advance reviews.
I am not sure I am ready to watch this but I will. The story of Flight 93 is so inspirational and I hope they do it justice in this special.
No one can blame the passengers for not fighting back. I fly a lot. Since I was a kid (in the 1970's) the drill was that you obey hijackers. You landed (usually in Cuba) and it ended. There was no precedent for this.
Since 9-11, things are clear. As Patrick Swayze said in "Red Dawn", "If you're gonna die, die standing up!"
OH MAN I almost forgot thanks for the ping
Commercial airline pilots already have been given legal standing to carry firearms with low impact bullets that won't pierce the airplanes hull.
Many have already gone through personal defense and weapons training and gotten their F.O. (Federal Officer) licenses and are carrying regularly now.
Senator Barbara Boxer was sponsoring a bill last year to work out some of the kinks that developed (like getting through check-in security easier, and allowing them to carrying on flights to and from the U.S. not just within the U.S.).
Don't know what happened to that bill.
This guy understood everything about what is good about America, a true to life John Wayne.
"Wolverines!"
