Through several acquaintances I have been told that the quickest way to get a reponse from 911 was to call give your address and hang up the phone.
Secondly, nothing seems to get the attention of a home invader faster than the sound of racking a shell in a pump shotgun.
BTTT.
Many thanks for providing this link to the NRA. I just sent them a lengthy email expressing my outrage at this situation in NOLA with the confiscation of firearms from our fellow citizens.
I also mentioned that I did not want the NRA to be "timid" in their response to investigating this situation or challenging it with the utmost vigor.
When I hear back from them I'll post a follow up note to let you know what they said. I hope they don't go "squishy" on us.
And it can't be in Louisiana, except perhaps by Federal military or the President, because there is no provision for, or any mention of, martial law in Louisiana law.
Now some are arguing that declaration of a state of emergency "gives" the authorities the power to violate the explicitly protected Constitutional rights. But has anyone asked where the power to pass such a law abridging the rights protected by the state and national constitutions might come from? Unless those same Constitutions provide for such a power, it doesn't exist. A quick perusal of the Louisiana constitution finds no such power, and several prohibitions on the actions sanctioned by these so called "emergency declarations". The only place such a provision might be hiding is in the Constitution of 1921. However the provisions of that earlier Constitution which were incorporated, were not incorporated as provisions of the current constitution, but rather as statutes, and only to the extent that they do not conflict with the current Constitution. The same is true of laws enacted under the previous Constitution, they must have not been in conflict with the 1921 constitution, and must not be in conflict with the current constitution of the state. Here are some pertinent provisions of the current constitution.
§1. Origin and Purpose of Government
Section 1. All government, of right, originates with the people, is founded on their will alone, and is instituted to protect the rights of the individual and for the good of the whole. Its only legitimate ends are to secure justice for all, preserve peace, protect the rights, and promote the happiness and general welfare of the people. The rights enumerated in this Article are inalienable by the state and shall be preserved inviolate by the state.
§2. Due Process of Law
Section 2. No person shall be deprived of life, liberty, or property, except by due process of law.
§5. Right to Privacy Section 5. Every person shall be secure in his person, property, communications, houses, papers, and effects against unreasonable searches, seizures, or invasions of privacy. No warrant shall issue without probable cause supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, the persons or things to be seized, and the lawful purpose or reason for the search. Any person adversely affected by a search or seizure conducted in violation of this Section shall have standing to raise its illegality in the appropriate court.
§6. Freedom from Intrusion
Section 6. No person shall be quartered in any house without the consent of the owner or lawful occupant.
§11. Right to Keep and Bear Arms
Section 11. The right of each citizen to keep and bear arms shall not be abridged, but this provision shall not prevent the passage of laws to prohibit the carrying of weapons concealed on the person.
Any kind of shotgun, with any action type, from a .410 double to 10 gauge autoloader will have nearly the same affect on them. Concentrates their mind it does. Assuming they have one.
People should try to purchase all weapons privately for cash anyway.
You don't want to leave any paper trail.
You're quite welcome. It wasn't hard to find.
I sent a somewhat "hot" note as well. Polite, but demanding.
The sound of an 870 starts people to running. At the time I almost wished it didn't!
Be sure to call at the toll free number and act sane and normal! You get real feedback.
Wrong. Go back and read the history of RKBA constitutional provisions in the "Colonies/states" bills of rights. The clearest expression goes "...that the people have the right to keep and bear arms for the defense of themselves and their own state, and the taking of game". The Founding Fathers who promulgated the FEDERAL Constitution's 2nd Amendment intended to protect all of these. Remeber, the Constitution uses "allowing language" (i.e. if it is mentioned, then it is limited---if it is NOT mentioned, then it is assumed as a "right of the people", and retained by them).
The time to buy a gun (or more than one) is when everything looks rosy. Because when things turn ugly
You are still responsible for your own safety, even after LEO arrives.
Yes, but that's also when they often decide you are a threat to them and take away your arms. (Of course many will just ask you to put the weapon down, or away, which is reasonable at that point).
where the goobers will slap a chap in jail for 10 years for blabbing a "secret" that the whole world knows anyhow
Good to see ya posting again Gov't..
true
He said people who need guns for legitimate reasons, such as hunting, would not be buying now.
that's BS. if the sales are booming, there is a very good chance that they are bringing down prices in order to sell more, which would be perfect capitalism.. you make more money if you sell many at lower prices, than few at higher prices.
or, if people are buying home defense weapons, other weapons may go on sale because they are being ignored.
either way, good time to buy guns.
Well it's been a full day since I sent my email off to the NRA and so far I haven't received a response -not even a "form letter" email. However, I did receive the following "Legislative Alert" from the NRA-ILA and thought I'd post here for your review and consideration:

Disaster Can't Destroy Gun Rights
(Fairfax, VA) -- National Rifle Association leader Wayne LaPierre slammed New Orleans authorities Monday for seizing legal firearms from lawful residents.
"What we've seen in Louisiana - the breakdown of law and order in the aftermath of disaster - is exactly the kind of situation where the Second Amendment was intended to allow citizens to protect themselves, " LaPierre said.
"When law enforcement isn't available, Americans turn to the one right that protects all the others - the right to keep and bear arms," LaPierre said. "This attempt to repeal the Second Amendment should be condemned."
The New York Times reported last Thursday that no civilians in New Orleans will be allowed to have guns, quoting the superintendent of police that "only law enforcement are allowed to have weapons."
A Louisiana state statute allows the chief law enforcement officer to "regulate possession" of firearms during declared emergencies. "But regulate doesn't mean confiscate," said Chris W. Cox, the NRA's chief lobbyist.
"Authorities are using that statute to do what the looters and criminals could not: disarm the law-abiding citizens of New Orleans trying to protect their homes and families," Cox said.
"The NRA will not stand idly by while guns are confiscated from law-abiding people who're trying to defend themselves," he said.
"We're exploring every legal option available to protect the rights of lawful people in New Orleans," Cox said, "and we're taking steps to overturn such laws in every state where they exist."
"Local authorities in New Orleans are turning nature's assault on human life into man's assault on human rights," LaPierre said. "Four million NRA members intend to stop this unconstitutional power grab."
