When my goats do escape they only go to the nearest pine tree or salal patch.
They're wonderful for brush. Many people I place with are amazed at what they can do to blackberries.
What you do have to have is dry, wind-free shelter for dairy goats, and they do need hay and fresh water daily. Hooves trimmed twice a year and worming every few months. CDT vaccine yearly. Gotta keep them away from Rhodies though, because they will eat it and it kills them.
If you ever change your mind, be sure to let me know. I am always taking in goats in need of homes here and we have a few younguns that were bottle-fed and are very sweet. They're amazing pets, as affectionate and fun as dogs and very intelligent. I have nubians and saanens and especially some mixes since my younger son let the buck out a few years back and he got everyone.
On three sides they have mesh field fence. On one side they have 5 strands of heavy gauge electric wire... very adequate for horses, but I don't think it is good enough for goats. I'm on a busy road so I'd hate to have them get out.
I also have coyotes back there.... they are no threat to the horses, but I've been cautious about getting anything that would just be an attractive target.
So... I'll probably have to keep mowin' my own brush :~D
