This might be unpopular, but our National Guard need to be looking for humans, not taking care of pets. It's taking away valuable time to look after the animals. Granted, the animals are probably better behaved than some of the humans there...

The National Guard is NOT shooting the dogs, they are out there rescuing them, giving them food and water, until the other rescue organizations are able to come and get them. The local sheriff is the one who is shooting the dogs.

Yes it is.

The sheriff is a mental case. He's just taking "the edge off his Jones" by shooting dogs. If I were a Guardsman in the situation that they are in, I would not want to be hearing close or distant gunfire of a random nature from anyone, including the local LEO's.

It may be expensive, but there will be a severe
backlash if it turns out to be true. A lot of
People love their pets, more tha they do most
other humans.

The humans have all been accounted for. Those who remain have been asked numerous times to evacuate. There are now teams identifying the dead, and these are the ones who are picking up the animals who are left. It's not taking anything away from the living.

There is no excuse for just shooting these animals because the navy has set up a kennel where they can be taken.

Your share of taxes going to the effort can be for the National Guard to look for people. My share will be for them to feed starving dogs. The people are more likely to either be able to fend for themselves or be dead already.

If there is no human right there why not rescue the dog?

Or why not rescue the human and his dog?

General Honore gave the order for his men to rescue the pets WITH the people being evacuated.

They are not out searching for pets -- though I pray that they are at least offering food and water to those animals they encounter to keep them alive until they can be saved by the animal rescue teams.
