A questions to those that worship at the altar of "free trade":

Isn't the attempted purchase by CNOOC of Unocal a further and natural - and therefore desirous - extension of "free trade"? Or is "free trade" only permissable with certain countries? Doesn't this amount to tariffs? After all, if the purchase had gone through, consumers here in the US might have benefitted - and Unocal shareholders WOULD have benefitted. Isn't that the point of "free trade"?

Duh, we don't have a free trade agreement with China.We have plenty of rarrifs on Chinese goods at the moment, because of their undervalued yen. Glad to see those who want to seal the borders and live in a closed society (like the former Soviet Union) are alive and well.
