So were you in Corpus Christi when Celia hit in 1970?

Thankfully, no! We were in Corpus in July 2003 when Hurricane Claudette was predicted to hit us. She (as hurricanes do) didn't follow the prediction and ended up 100 miles north of us. We did get lots of rain and flooding and small tornados in her wake that killed a couple of people. The lightening and thunderstorm was spectacular, however. As scary as it was, I do miss the thunder and lightening. Bakersfield is pretty drab in the way of weather. How's the windstorm damage insurance been since Florida's hurricanes over the last few years? I've been wondering if rates had skyrocketed.

I have no idea about how high Florida's windstorm rates have gone. I live in Corpus Christi. I rather vivdly remember hurricane Celia. That's the only time I've ever seen seagulls fly backwards. For the next month or two one did not see seagulls flying in the sky. They were all walking, because they all had broken wings. I have never been in town for another hurricane. My brother and parents evacuated when Allen hit in 1980. I was on vacation in Wyoming when Bret hit the King Ranch. I hope there are no more named storms this year.

I'm shocked. SHOCKED.

Will W notice? Has he taken notice of anything happening in CA for the past 5 years?

Exactly.

Well, at least now I know what StormFront are about. For others who don't travel in those circles, they appear to be a "white power" leaning group.

9:05 p.m.: The Federal Aviation Administration shifts the landing pattern of jetliners approaching LAX for safety reasons, after the LAPD notifies the FAA that a police helicopter was fired upon.

Shades of New Orleans. Thanks for the detailed accounting. Watching live via TV as Denny was yanked out of his truck and beaten was an unforgettable image for this Southern Californian. Too young to be familiar with other moments of unrest like the Watts riots, I'd never seen anything like it.

"Anybody who thinks 10 illegals standing on a streetcorner creates a white collar job is a real special kind of stupid."

Sorry, but the swampster is on "time out." Rut remember the 10 illegals will create white collar jobs, defense lawyer, bail bondsman, welfare worker, etc.

I guess one could consider a prison guard to be a 'management' position.

"half the restaurants and most of the fast food joints in the state will have to shut down."

back here in the real world they'd likely have to set hiring wages accordingly to attract LEGAL workers, then adjust the price of burgers etc. At least this way, legit businesses would have a chance to compete on even ground.

Scumbag employers who hire illegals should be busted.

41% of Californians support civilian border patrols. That's a large vote of no-confidence in government. Most of the other 56% are pro-rule of law, they just want the government to do the job for them.

You nailed it, T.

"Also from the poll was a question concerning civilian border patrols. From the poll:
"By a 56% to 41% margin, Californians reject the idea of private citizens forming patrols along the border with Mexico to reduce the number of people entering the country."

This poll is not good news for the Buchasnan/Tancredo crowd"

California is really the perfect state to reflect the mood of the United States.

Idiot.

Recently figured out that there are at least 12 million illegals in California....so much for the figures we keep seeing in the media.
