And you would be right. I live in San Francisco and there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that anarchy would reign if there were a disaster - natural or man-made - on the scale of what has happened in New Orleans. Perhaps I am paranoid, but I think it is just a below-the-surface thing waiting to happen - and not just in San Francisco.

And by the way, there already have been *major* quakes in Cal, and no violence ever followed. After the Northridge quake, the illegals around here all started cooking, sleeping, and camping outside. Nobody could get them to go back inside their apartments. They thought the buildings were going to fall down around them and they were safer outside. Guess that proves they'd rather live on the streets of LA than go back to their home countries.
Anyway, I don't think the illegals will riot next time there's a quake. They'll surely loot, though. It's been my experience they'll take anything that isn't bolted down. But let's not borrow trouble. Let's get rid of the illegals first, (yeah, right, big dream!) and worry later about what will happen after the next big quake.

You and president Bush's pro-crime/FROBL, have had zero effect on peoples opinion. They aren't buying your "family values"/cheap-lettuce jive.
41% of Californians support civilian border patrols. That's a large vote of no-confidence in government. Most of the other 56% are pro-rule of law, they just want the government to do the job for them.

Looking at these numbers, is it any wonder the President's numbers are down?
People are pissed.

"Both issues that the majority of Californians are against"
If this is so, then why do they keep re-electing these socialists? They can say they are against these issues, yet they elect squishy folk, that are not to be trusted.

" We've had lots of quakes, and violence never followed.
Illegals are our big concern, period."
Weren't illegals a large part of the 1992 riots in Los Angeles?

Guess who's in control, and has responsibility of controlling and securing our borders from Texas to San Diego? Hello??
You live in WA and are pointing fingers at socialist in other states?
You have to love some of these comments on this forum. Funny stuff.

Hurricanes come during a rather well defined season. Earthquakes don't. Hurricanes can be tracked for thousands of miles before they make landfall, and their intensity can be estimated. No one knows where or when the next major earhquake will happen or how big it will be. I'd rather take my chances with hurricanes.
I guess it's just a matter of preference, like chocolate or vanilla ice cream. Having lived both in a hurricane zone on the Gulf and in earthquake country in California, I found living with the potential of hurricanes to be very stressful. The hurricane season in Corpus was from June to November, almost half the year! And during that time, we were always on the alert for how close each hurricane or tropical storm was predicted to come to us, whether to board up the house, what valuables to take, how to find the children at schoo, finding the escape paths out of the city, and finding lodging elsewhere. And when one hurricane threat dissipated, another usually was lurking in the Carribean just so we could start the anxiety all over again! My neighbors were used to it and took at as a matter of course, but having not lived with it very long, I found it very stressful. And right before moving back to California, a hurricane was predicted to hit right on Corpus - right when our house was in escrow. We had to postpone leaving to potentially board up the house and fix any damage so it would sell. Give me an unannounced, over in less than a minute earthquake any day! I feel for those still living in the area, especially with the outrageous 'wind damage insurance' that is mandatory for a mortgage. I bet the prices will be even higher after this.

The hurricane season in Corpus was from June to November, almost half the year! So were you in Corpus Christi when Celia hit in 1970?

Pollsters get totally different results depending on how they ask the question about illegal immigration. When they ask people to rank their concerns in order of importance, illegal immigration always comes out near the bottom.Tom DeLay Gets The Message on Illegal Immigration
"House Majority Leader Tom DeLay said yesterday that the House will produce another immigration and border security bill this Congress and will have to pass that bill before turning to a guest-worker program.
...He said the House has received the message that immigration is "an incredibly important issue to the American people."
Immigration worries Republicans
Republican congressional members' constituents care more about immigration and border security than any othe issue, according to a new congressional insiders poll.
When they ask people the degree of their concern of "illegal" immigrants it always produces a number that appears to make it look like a much greater concern than it really is.
More pro-illegal immigration propaganda.
But these type polls are useful in gauging shifts in public opinion over time (comparing apples to apples). The percent of people saying that illegal immigration is extremely important has not changed in this poll since January 2002. It remained constant at 49%. The anti-immigrant propaganda campaign has not been effective.
This poll isn't about legal immigration. It's about illegal immigration. Your pro-illegal immigration propaganda campaign isn't very effective.

I have never seen 15 illegals standing on a street corner in Bakersfield. There is no reason for them to do that here. They all have real jobs.

Anybody who thinks 10 illegals standing on a streetcorner creates a white collar job is a real special kind of stupid.

There ought to be a law against illegal immigrants.
To: bayourod
Illegal immigration is illegal....what part of that don't you get. In another 50 years this country will have replaced its population with third worlders and just too many people period.
How many millions should we let waltz in without checking on their legality to be here?

People will have to fend for themselves if there is a major catastophe in So. Cal.. I will never forget hearing over the radio during the riots an announcer stating, "If you need police assistance you can forget about it". A large portion of LA was subjected to this rude awakening. With the increase in Mexican gangs in this region the scenario will be even more frightening.

People will have to fend for themselves if there is a major catastophe in So. Cal. We've already had them. The people in Louisiana could take some lessons from us in fending for themselves.
