It may have already been said, but Compass did feel some heat and changed his mind about hiring him.

Does that really matter? The fact that Compass, 3-1/2 years after 9/11, and after DC sniper and NOI member John Muhammed's reign of terror -- after all the volumes written and spoken about NOI and Islam, and the recruitment of violent criminals by Islam in prisons -- after all that, Compass would consider using NOI to teach "sensitivity" to the police -- is mind-boggling.

Just keeping FReepers up to date. I'm no fan of Compass. I think he, like a lot of folks in positions of power down there, is in way over his head. Or he may be just plain stupid. Or both.

The chief of police in New Orleans works directly for the mayor, and can be hired or fired on a whim. I wouldn't be surprised to find that Nagin was behind all of this. Another stupid thing Compass did was to order all officers to wear their garrison caps and to try to smile all the time. As if this would solve some of the problems with the NOPD's bad image among the locals.

The NOPD also has a residency rule, fearing to hire "outsiders" for fear that they might not understand the "needs" and "culture" of poor black folk in the city. This has caused many officers to quit and move elsewhere. A lot of the officers they did hire, were simply looking for a check, who had no intentions of ever doing their jobs. Can you say Walmart?
