Hondurans have surpassed Brazilians as the most apprehended immigrants, besides Mexicans, in the Rio Grande Valley, according to the U.S. Border Patrol.
The agency reported 21,942 Hondurans and 21,855 Brazilians apprehended in the 2005 fiscal year, according to figures released Saturday by the Border Patrol which included only "other than Mexican" undocumented immigrants.
Nationally, Hondurans are the number one OTM in the country, according to the agency.
The increase came with Saturday's apprehension of 175 Honduran immigrants.
The number of Brazilians coming through the Valley has been increasing steadily since 2003 when 1,045 Brazilians where apprehended by the Border Patrol.
"The increase in Honduran apprehensions is directly-related to successful Border Patrol operations in the Rio Grande Valley sector," said Roy Cervantes, spokesman for the Border Patrol.
The growth of Brazilian immigration was paralyzed by the implementation of the Expedited Removal (ER) program on July 2, according to officials. The program was created by Congress in 1996 under the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act.
Thus far, ER for Brazilians in the Valley has resulted in a 92 percent decrease in Brazilian arrests in about a two-month period.
The ER program is designed to deport OTM immigrants in as little as two weeks, and applies to adults with no history of mental illness caught within 100 miles of the border and within 14 days after entering the country, Border Patrol officials said.
"Through Expedited Removal, we are making great strides in accomplishing our goal of increased security at our nation's borders," said Cervantes. "It supports Customs and Border Protection's national Border Patrol strategy by addressing the growing number of OTMs illegally entering the U.S."
These numbers are for Hondurans and Brazilians ONLY! It appears they only track OTM's(Other than Mexicans), and it also appears they are deporting ONLY OTM's and not Mexicans.
My GOD what is happening to our country? I wish all you BushBots would move down here to Texas for a few days and see the mess we have. I love our beautiful America with all my heart, and it is heart breaking to see what is being allowed along our border.
By the way, these numbers are for the Rio Grande Valley ONLY. Imagine how many are being caught at other locations.
If the Hondurans and the Brazilians entered through Mexico, put them back over the Mexican border.
Got off our meds again did we?
I live in Texas and we don't have any problem at all. Hispanics play a major role in producing the high standard of living we have.
Our economy is great, our crime rate is down, our academic test scores are improving, our medical facilities are expanding at record rates.
What is your problem? The immigrant women are very gracious and lovely. The men are hard working and devoted to their families. The children are well behaved and the teens conduct themselves with decorum.
Having been in both countries, it doesn't surprise me about the Hondurans. But the Brazilians? That's pretty dumb. They're only an inner tube away from Miami.
Who's taking care of all the Brazilian-itas? Sounds like a job for.............Ray Nagin!! dee har har.
Your reply is well thought out as I am sure you have made this argument several times in the past. But I have to wonder why it is necessary to start off your reply with the above statement which instantly negated any argument you could make.
A common response on FR would be "We're all going to die!. We're all going to die!"
You have made it quite obvious in past threads that you are a Pat Buchanan supporter who opposes President Bush.
Now you post an hysterical comment calling for "Bushbots" to come see how things are in Texas. Things are great in Texas for everyone except you.
Why don't you just tell us how bad things are for you? Have you been fired from jobs and replaced by illegal Hondurans? Are illegal Hondurans competing with you in your personal affairs? Is there a problem in your church with illegal Hondurans? Why have you been reduced to crying "My GOD what is happening to our country?"
Used to be the Brazilians would walk up to a BP officer and beg to be apprehended, because they knew they were going to get a free pass. I guess the Hondurans are now in on the secret.
Poor Mexicans, they get deported right away...it's just not fair, I tell ya.
Matter of fact, it may even be...shudder...racist. Oh my...

Threat Abstract: A combination of geographic, demographic, and economic factors contributes to the obstacles that law enforcement encountered from the drug trade throughout the Houston HIDTA. Chief among these include the HIDTA's relative proximity to Mexico, its extensive transportation infrastructure, its diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds, and its well-developed system of international commerce.
The most common drug-rated offenses (apart from drug trafficking) reported by participants in an annual Houston HIDTA survey were money laundering, assault, homicide, robbery and burglary. UCR data shows that overall crime rates increased in all but two Houston HIDTA counties (Nueces and San Patricio) from 2001 to 2002 (most recent data). Nueces County had the highest overall crime per capita in 2002.
Homicides in the city of Houston increased by more than 8% to 278 from 2002 to 2003. Those homicides defined as drug-related declined by 17% during the same time frame. The primary drug threat for the Houston HIDTA continues to be cocaine/crack cocaine. Secondary threats include marijuana, methamphetamine, heroin, and Ecstasy. Cocaine and marijuana pose stable, chronic threats, whereas methamphetamine, heroin, and Ecstasy are relatively recent threats and are increasing. Methamphetamine seizure amounts rose by 555% over 2002, while the number of labs seized increased 45% over 2002. This trend continues in 2004.

(snip) Our student body is about 80% Hispanic. I teach ESL (English as a Second Language), mostly to children who were actually born and raised here but who cant read or write well in English or Spanish (although they can curse fluently in both.).........He was 13 years old, born and raised in the U.S., and he couldnt tell time..........People have been trying to teach you since you were five years old!! I blazed at him, and he looked mildly affronted and then wandered off with his bathroom pass. I sat there reeling, thinking of the millions of dollars down the hole trying to coax, bribe, and jolly these soft, spoiled, cunning little vandals into actually learning something. Well, theyve learned. Theyve learned to whine, blame others, and do as little as possible in return for what they get.

I know several teachers in Los Angeles and Orange County. Your link includes a very accurate description of a California classroom. Our kids are getting cheated, and there are some very good teachers who can't do a thing about it.
Ode to FROBL's
We must fight the Nazis, its the call of the FROBL's
But lose an argument and they respond like Goebbels
For when shown the facts and logic they cannot confront
They must retort "Did you get that from Stormfront?"
And you quit stalking me! Why, there oughta be a law, I tells ya...!
And the trees are made of lollipops and the sky is filled with tangerines and from the kitchen faucets flows lemonade and the crickets drop golden coins on the doorstep of every happy home around the land...
