PHILADELPHIA, Miss. (AP) -- A judge has revoked the appeal bond of Edgar Ray Killen convicted in the 1964 slayings of three civil right workers.
Circuit Judge Marcus Gordon ordered Killen returned to prison. Gordon issued the order after a hearing Friday in Neshoba County Circuit Court.
Killen was convicted on three counts of manslaughter. He was sentenced to three consecutive 20-year terms.
Killen had posted a $600,000 appeal bond in August.
District Attorney Mark Duncan asked the judge to revoke the bond, saying the 80-year-old sawmill operator and preacher "apparently misrepresented his physical condition to the court."
Defense lawyers had argued Killen was wheelchair-bound after breaking both legs in a logging accident. But a deputy sheriff reported he had seen Killen walking around at a gasoline station.
A Neshoba County jury convicted Killen on June 21 for orchestrating the slayings of James Chaney, Michael Schwerner and Andrew Goodman exactly 41 years earlier.
During the appeal bond hearing, Killen testified from his wheelchair that he was enduring serious pain in prison because of injuries from a March tree-cutting accident in which both his legs were broken.
Duncan asked Gordon to revoke Killen's bond after a Winston County sheriff's deputy claimed to have seen Killen last week walking unaided at a Conoco gas station on Mississippi 16 in Philadelphia.
Killen's attorney, Mitch Moran of Carthage, had said his client cannot walk and cannot drive an automobile.

No pity from me.
"Defense lawyers had argued Killen was wheelchair-bound after breaking both legs in a logging accident. But a deputy sheriff reported he had seen Killen walking around at a gasoline station."
Killen didn't say, "IT'S A MIRACLE!"?
;o)
Nope!
None from me, either.
Me either. He should DIE in prison.
Maybe John Edwards got him to rise up from his wheelchair.
ROTFLOL!
That is too funny. ;o)
I suspect he will. :)
...oops...
:-D )))
Does anybody have an update on the schedule for the trial of the murderer of the 15 year old kid who was murdered in the late 50's/early 60's for supposedly talking to or whistling at a white woman in MS?
I know they recently exhumed his body? I assume his mother is no longer alive?
