Not necessarily. I'm no fan of Brown and I think he should 'spend more time with his family.' But in Rove's news management strategy, this may just be the rope-a-dope, luring the media and the Dims in for the knockout after they wear themselves into a frenzy, having become overconfident by landing a few puny jabs.
I still think Brown will suddenly feel the urge for private sector employment. One call from Bush or Cheney is all it would take. But with Brown out of the way now, it will leave the path open for the axe to fall where it most belongs: on Blanco and Nagin who just happen to be Democrats.
Rove is no doubt in full political mode on this one. And the fat lady should be expected to sing before too long...
