Here is the kind of help the First responders in new Orleans were giving out:

Local Officials helped trap people in New Orleans

Now that title can be easily misread,....what they did was lock down (close to access ) a bridge that the locals were using to evacuate the flooded areas of the city apparently!

I suppose FEMA ordered it...../sarcasm

He could sail around in a boat and hit small creatures in the head with his paddle.

If this happens I'm finished will the Republicans!!

No, you're not.

Dang, it's rare, perhaps unknown, for any president to serve two terms without having to replace a few losers. Think of the thousands of people they have to appoint. Inevitably, they have to rely on the opinions of others. I've found no evidence yet that Bush ever met Brown before he was hired at FEMA as Chief Counsel.

Brown is so 'hot' right now that Bush may simply feel he needs to focus political effort on the relief effort. Brown has simply become a political liability, regardless of what he did or didn't do.

Brown's not a Dem. They'd've promoted him.

9/11 happened on Condi Rice's watch as National Security Advisor, and she was promoted. She used flawed intelligence from George Tenet, who got a medal. That is apparently the Bush way of operating.

Axing Brown at a later date when the smoke clears would have been a better plan

So we keep an inept unqualified manager in one of the most important and highly visible jobs in the country for political purposes. Sounds like something Bill Clinton would do. Chertoff made the decision. Bush agreed. The guy had lost the trust of those to whom he reported. Do you want to wait for the next disaster and still have him in charge. Say that Hurricane off coast of Florida hits the states and hits a state with out Jeb Bush to make things happen, do you really want Brown their to expedite things working with the B team because the A team is still in New Orleans? I hope not.

If he resigns- then it because he screwed up and if he gets fired it is because he deserves it. President Bush is never going to give in to the moveon/code pink agenda.

Dave

Take it up with Michael Chertoff. Chertoff said he was sending him back to Washington to take care of those hurricanes that you said he should be axed for.

My comments were to assign a military logistical expert to manage the situation. But on another front, the Political front, it is grist for the Democrat mill. It could have been done without fanfare. I agree with you that Brown is out of his element. But recognizing that, it becomes apparent that the fundraisers of the Democrat party now using Katrina to bludgeon Bush has just been given a tool to beat them harder. You are correct, the storm off of Florida has a great manager in Jeb. Shouldn't we start recrimminations with Nagan and Blanco, then FEMA director, maybe Chertoff in that descending order, it seems to me.

Give Mike Chertoff a call and eat his ass out...he sent him back to stand guard over Ophelia.

I understand that to BushBots, criticism == trolling. But those are the two of the main people who 1) didn't catch 9/11 2) led Bush on a hunt for the never-found WMDs. And what does he do to these two people who failed him and the country? Promotion and a medal.

I am wondering about those debit cards being passed out. Now, how do they know that the person standing in line is really an evacuee. I saw one film where they were just peeling the cards out and handing them out. Period.

It's kind of odd. Yesterday, they said they give out the cards now but the funds won't actually be available for use for two weeks. I suppose that gives them time to check addresses, dupes, household status, etc. Also, the cards aren't all for $2000, only for up to $2000. And it's not only FEMA cards. Some other agency is also issuing them. And some people will qualify for both.

After they got mobbed in the initial distribution at the Astrodome, they pulled back somewhat and are going to proceed with an initial distribution. But they are saying they will probably go back to writing checks and the preferred direct deposit that they've done before.

Just more half-baked plans. But then, Katrina was so big...

As stated, his actions do not excuse the poor performance of Blanco or Nagin. His ability to assist those in Florida was likely aided in great part by a state government that new what it was doing. That also reflects poorly on Blanco. But if (and yet again, this is Time we're talking about, so it's all still "if") he lied to get into his position, he shouldn't be allowed to keep it. If a person lies, and others believe the lie or fail to catch that they are being lied to, those others look like idiots, but it cannot excuse the person lying in the first place.

If he didn't lie, good for him for sticking it out. If he did, he should be punished for that, especially if it comes to light his embellished claims of skills lead to his inability to perform his job at a crucial time.
