The contrast between 9/11 and the "coordination" between state and federal gov't during Katrina is disturbing. Bush puts good people around him to do the job. He doesn't micro manage. He didn't expect the dems to immediately get political with this tragedy.

Meanwhile the Governor of LA and the Mayor of N.O. get a pass.

Hardly. There isnt a day that goes by that there arent more stories in the MSM about how the governor and the mayor screwed up as well. They, however, are elected officials. You cant fire them. Brown serves at the pleasure of the president and you can believe he is not pleased with what he's seen. Better to get rid of him now before we have to deal with a dirty bomb or something.

Exactly. He's apparently not that competent, and worse yet, he lied to get the position (again, according to Time, so take with a huge, hypertension inducing grain of salt... make that an entire salt lick). He needs to lose his job just on general principles.

However, I will echo the sentiments of others here that both Blanco and Nagin should be forced to resign or should be impeached as well. They're politicians, where lying about your accomplishments isn't a bad thing, it's a requirement for the position. But that doesn't excuse their complete and total incompetence, either. When Brown goes (showing the right can step up to correct their mistakes) then Dumb (Nagin) and Dumber (Blanco) should go too.

Now they are saying he's not stepping down just going back to Washington. and someone else will be running the recovery effort.

Falling on one's sword was what defeated Roman generals used to do.

YOu have no evidence that President Bush threw Brown to the wolves.

Brown is the DIRECTOR of FEMA and has other duties. Someone else is now in charge of this specific disaster.

I understand his frustration. I am sick of the Republicans backing down everytime a little pressure comes their way. Come on, stick by our men just like the other side does theirs.

You sure it was a democratic congress that confirmed him?

The 98-0 Senate vote is a whole other issue though.

Okay, so techically he's still the Head of FEMA and someone else is appointed to lead efforts on ground?

Sounds like the usual structure of large organizations. The main guy stays in the office, the rest are dispursed to the hands on efforts. Not quite what initial reports were painting.

Sounds like he was given two options: 1) Resign 2) Be fired

My bet is resignation.

Admiral Allen put in charge per Fox.

Of the disaster response, or of FEMA?
