Sadly, a voice of Reason in the Muslim community passes away. This is what needs to happen to Islam, not the Fascism that is slowly taking hold of it.

not the Fascism that is slowly taking hold of it.

I don't see it.
Since 9-11 they've had 2 successes
1 Spain
2 Mauritania (but we'll see on this)
Other than that I don't see any other successes. That's not too say they still aren't a power to be reckoned with.

"And no state had the right to intervene with the way people lived and practised their faith as individuals. What was not acceptable was to use the power of the state to impose one particular interpretation of faith in the name of the collective will "

Great article.
I hope the followers of Madjid can continue in his footsteps. He was truly what islam is desperately in need of at this time.

Unfortunately, Islamic voices of reason don't get the sort of exposure in Saudi-funded madrassas that Islamic fanatics and crackpots do.

If the Saudis and Pakistanis were serious about ending terrorism, they'd be pushing for more men like this in their madrassas.

I think it was a great article.
And how many people will read it and even know about Madjid outside of Indonesia?
What a shame.

Thanks for posting!

No brainer, my friend. Should I wait all day for someone to debate me on this issue? I don't think so. It's an Ideology that teaches hate the same same it preaches peace.

I'd never heard of him before today. I have a feeling that in certain circles he's well known.

You're absolutly right. The ONLY thing Islam teaches is hate. All Imams teach hate 24 hrs a day....yup you've got a real good handle on Islam

"I have a feeling that in certain circles he's well known."

I'm sure he is. But it's the rest of world who should have known about him.
I hope his followers can continue to fend off the influences of the radical extremists.

What an appropriate name he had.

Thank you. I know I do. Let me ask you ONE question. Would you die for me? Don't spin. It's a yes or no answer.

"It's an Ideology that teaches hate the same same it preaches peace."

You seem to have had some trouble comprehending the article. Too bad. It was about a very important, influencial man, especially in these times. He will truly be missed.
