FOXBOROUGH -- Green Day played a long set when it headlined in front of 40,000-plus fans at Gillette Stadium last Saturday. Last night, the group did just one song and it was a safe choice: ''Boulevard of Broken Dreams," though it wasn't perhaps the most cheerful track to spice a pre-game show featuring the unveiling of another championship banner for the New England Patriots.
It also was curious to see Green Day wedged into a small, hideaway end-zone stage (Elton John was put on the same stage at last year's pre-game show but at least was allowed to do two songs). Which, of course, raises the question: What are the politics of these pre-game shows all about? Why did Santana get to perform two songs last night from a flashily lit, midfield stage where everyone could see the band -- with cheerleaders drumming up excitement all around them -- while Green Day was shunted into a lonely balcony in back of an end zone? . . .

>>>Ummm, 'cause Green Day sucks?
I like Green Day. You wanted to know that right? lol
I think there are more conservatives up here than anyone thinks. The problem is that the morons that hold office are so corrupt and powerful, they run virtually unopposed every election, so the true will of the people is never realized.
Of those seven, three have written nasty songs directed at the President, one of whom has verbally attacked the President, another one has openly campaigned against the President and for John Kerry, another one is an definite leftist, one may be a normal American and one is in his own drug-abuse induced haze.
Disconcerting? I guess we know where this writer stands. I want to say thanks to Patriot fans for booing.
We turned the game on late thereby missing all the "fun." If I want music I'll watch MTV.
Just play football!!
Oooops, that should read 'to perform'...ugh, need more java! :)
Today's half time shows stink, except for college games with marching bands.
More Green Bay, less Green Day.

You are out of touch aren't you? Music on MTV?
I didn't see it, but I doubt it was political. Green Day is punkish, their hit song is a downer, but they do appeal to younger white audiences, so you put em on the show, but don't feature them. Santana is kind of a slut; he will seemingly do ANY gig, which maybe lowers his cache a bit, but I think he is STILL riding the energy from that amazing Supernatural album. He's colorful, ethnic, happy, energetic. Much better music for the midfield hoopla. You gonna have cheerleaders dance to "Blvd of Broken Dreams?" Don't think so.
I feel like the NFL does a disservice by having these so called "entertainers" performing. During the half-time, they had Ozzie Osborne, I couldn't stand looking at him, he looked stoned. I don't think these people represent the NFL at all.
How could Steve Morse of the Boston Globe find Kanye West's comments about the President "disconcerting?" Does he agree with him? Inquiring minds want to know.
Tom Brady is a God in MA. I truly believe there isn't one person up there that doesn't like him. With that said, he has vocally supported Bush and Republicans. Do the math, because I don't think the NFL did.
And the Kennedy Family Newspaper (aka The Boston Globe) is so revered as a Boston tradition that people fail to question anything they print. Saying something against the Globe is akin to treason and dissing the Sox.
AMEN!!!
I had never heard of "Green whatever" or Kenya whoever until I read what he had said on TV! That crap they sing is not music.
Just my opinion, of course.
MA is the most corrupt state in the union. The libs rule this place with an iron fist. It's tough to survive.
Oh, was there a pre-game show? I thought they were just vamping and shooting off drunken fireworks while they waited for the Sox game to end. Sorry I missed it...
Just like California. Gerrymandering has created a legislature that is totally out of sync with the views of the public - and can't be removed without redistricting.
Kudos to all the red-blooded, America-lovin, Patriots fans. High fives and kudos. They do not appreciate their country or their president being trashed with lies.
Did they really boo him ??? YES~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
