"Gush Katif was an important agricultural area for Israel, providing the Jewish state with 70 percent of its produce."
So ... given the Arabs are not known for farming, where/who is making up this huge shortfall? And, a better question: did food prices in Israel skyrocket as well?

I bet God could aim a disaster at the palis, he wouldn't need to sacrifice the people of NO.

"No rabbi can tell you why such a disaster struck," Greenwald told WND. "Doing so, making these statements, is dangerous and counterproductive. There have been debates the past 50 years for the reason of the Holocaust, and we still don't know what it was about. Some things we are not meant to know."This Rabbi has it right.

Why would God torment and kill thousands of innocent people just to get back at the Israelis for making an arguably poor political decision?

No, he sent Katrina as America's judgement for inflicting WorldNetDaily on the Internet...

I would accept and even believe this, IF God had given our leaders a warning ahead of time. Maybe that happened, but I haven't heard of it.

Once again, President Bush did NOT force Israel to withdraw from Gaza. It was Sharon's decision and responsibility. It's very doubtful that Bush pressured him to do this. We don't know what communications may have passed in secret between the two countries, but Sharon was definitely the point man behind this fiasco.
So, why would God punish New Orleans for the sins of Ariel Sharon? If it was providential, then most likely it was punishment for rampant sin, crime, and corruption in New Orleans. But I don't feel comfortable second-guessing divine providence.

That is a good question: but one could argue we elected the leaders, whether we voted or not, who supported these decisions. In effect, b/c we are voting nation, all citizens are legally liable. It was the same principal Osama used regarding his attack on 'innocents' ... to him none of us can be that given how we vote.
Now, otoh, Southern Decadence is getting very very little press, and I found the timing of Katrina and that particular festival very interesting indeed.
