Cynic that I am, my random thought is the mayor has ulterior motives by ordering the remaining population to evacuate. After everyone is gone, all the property is going to be seized as "abandoned" and the houses are going to be bulldozed. Then the mayor and his friends are going to get feelthy rich with the coming "reconstruction" boom in new homes, condos, casinos, hotels, motels, office complexes, bars, restaurants, and shopping malls.

Those same thoughts keep coming back into my mind too.

That is probably why people refuse to leave their homes. The homes will be looted and taken over by gangs who will confiscate the whole area. No one will be able to get back in or the area will be condemned. Then "they" will buy the land for cents on the dollar and use the disaster rebuilding funds to pay for their enlargement of the casino/entertainment empire.

Now - could it possibly be that a mayor and governor would be part of a massive land re-use scheme?

In a corrupt state, nothing is too far out.

The state people need to cause an uproar over this, demand recalls, and clean house of the government.

Good points, E.

Can you say "EMINENT DOMAIN?"

They will condemn all the property of the poor and sell it to their buddies. The whole corrupt lot will get very rich. And it will all be Bush's fault. /sarcasm
