Miss Marple, your list is terrific! I added a couple of items, and will send this to all on my address book. Thanks, and keep those useful ideas coming.
"Democrats and members of the media are circulating a lie that President Bush did not respond adequately to the Katrina hurricane crisis.
THE TRUTH:
1. President Bush offered help to Governor Blanco on August 27, 2005, BEFORE THE HURRICANE HIT, and she declined. Federal law requires that the governor of a state ask for assistance before the Feds will step in. Even though his offer for evacuation help was rejected, Bush directed Homeland Security to prepare for disaster relief. The FEDS WERE READY, Blanco was not.
2. The National Guard was not mobilized immediately by Governor Blanco, saying she had to have 24 hours to make the decision for evacuation.
3. Mayor Nagin had 550 municipal buses and hundreds of additional school buses to evacuate New Orlean citizens, and he refused to do so, allowing the buses to become flooded and useless.
4. The American Red Cross was turned back by Louisiana officials.
5. The Salvation Army was turned back by Louisiana officials.
6. Hundreds of private citizens with boats ready to rescue people were turned back by Louisiana Fish and Wildllife officials.
7. Mobile hospitals and doctors from North Carolina were turned back by Louisiana officials.
8. Ham operators offering to help with communications were turned down by Louisiana officials."
