I addressed this the night before last, in my vanity "A Memo to All Sunshine Soldiers." The White House can't get into a shouting match with the press right now (especially with Scott McClellan as press secretary, one decision that I vehemently disagree with the President about).

In the case of Bill Clinton, you will remember that his minions in the press, his advisors, and Republican office holders defended him no matter how awful the charges were.

President Bush only has the grass roots to stick up for him, as the office holders and the pundits are COWARDS!!

Miss Marple - do you think the Republicans in Congress know a lot of this stuff? And if you/we think they don't, should we start calling them?

I agree wholeheartedly with your assessment.

The great irony is that if the rest of the GOP would more effectively defend the President, they would find their own poll numbers rise.

Most of them must be really insulated from the grassroots.
