Major Garrett new blockbuster----Salvation Army efforts at supplying the evacuees BLOCKED.
Hugh Hewitt ^ | Sept 8 2005 | Hugh Hewitt

Posted on 09/08/2005 4:42:37 PM PDT by Dog

The Fox News Channel's Major Garrett made another appearance on the program this evening, following up on his blockbuster story yesterday. Among other things, Garrett got confirmation --on camera-- of the Louisian State department of Homeland Security's blocking of the delivery of relief supplies to the Superdome and the Convention Center. In addition, Garrett received confirmation from senior Salvation Army officials in Washington, D.C. that the Salvation Army's efforts at supplying the evacuees were also repeatedly blocked. Radioblogger will have the transcript up later, but the key takeaway was when I asked Garrett if characterizing Louisian's preparation for the storm as "abysmal" was accurate and he confirmed that indeed it was. Read the whole thing.

I also asked Garrett why no other network is on this story. He can't offer an answer for that, event hough he points out that this isn't a hard story to get, and Fox News needn't be credited. All CNN has to do (or MSNBC or CBS) is call the Red Cross and get a camera over there.

No. CBS's own poll yesterday showed only 13% of respondent's thought it was the president's fault. The ass-rat's tactics are backfiring again.

We shall see. Polls have a way of dipping between elections and coming back in election years. "Some" said he was unreelectable in 2003.

They are not going to welcome the poor people back with open arms, obviously. Apparently even the home owners are going to have a difficult time getting their property back.

They went to the Michael Moore school of journalism:

Moore isn't smart enough to think that up himself, that's out of the Goebbels playbook, though I'm sure he borrowed it too, probably from Marx-Engels.

If the LSM (formerly known as the MSM) can't even get the structure of American Government right, how accurate can they be re non-American Government structure? LSM credibility? An oxymoron.

"I think MAJOR Garret deserves a PROMOTION IN RANK!"

'If that guy was a Major, he's a Colonel now!' That is straight from Kelley's Heroes.

I called the ABC News newsroom. I asked why this story wasn't being covered. Why would ABC still be reporting that FEMA was not letting supplies in when it was LA Homeland Security?

The woman got real mad and tried to throw me to the audience survey department. Then she hung up on me.

A caller on Rush said this and I'm sure it's true: "I'll bet those buses were running on election day!"

do you have any idea exactly how this decision was made? Do the Major Generals take orders from the governor in times of emergency?

It's really hard to tell. Here's a snippet from his bio:

Major General Bennett C. Landreneau is the Adjutant General for Louisiana. He is responsible for the deployment and coordination of programs, policies and plans affecting the more than 14,000 members of the Louisiana Army and Air National Guard. He is also the Director of the Louisiana Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness.

So, he has two roles, one with the NG, and one for the State's Homeland Security (OHSEP). The OHSEP is listed on the Governor's website as a cabinet, which tells me that he reports directly to the Governor. Also, since he's the Adjutant General for LA, he would report directly to the Governor in that capacity, AFAIK.

Once his department was activated (on the 26th, see below), I think he had the authority to keep the Red Cross and SA from supplying evacuees at the Superdome, although I'm at a loss of words to explain why he would do such a thing. It looks like the order would not have had to come from the Governor.

The Governor issued Proclamation No. 48 KBB 2005 on August 26th. This declared the state of emergency, and activated the state's emergency response and recovery program, under the command of Gen. Landreneau.

By the 30th, the hurricane had hit, and water was starting to rise in the city.

She issued EO No. KBB 2005-23 on August 31st. This authorized the commissioning of individuals who are not bonded.

September 2nd, well after the city had flooded, that she issued EO No. KBB 2005-25, which includes this:

SECTION 3: The Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness is hereby authorized to commandeer and utilize such buses for such purposes;

I don't know what the OHSEP did with regard to this EO. By this time, all the buses were under water. This EO even suspended the CDL requirement for this purpose. There have been more EOs since then, but from the 26th until the 2nd, there was the one proclamation, and two EOs.

Blanco blocked the Red Cross because she said if they had food at the Super Dome, too many people would show up. Blanco and Nagin BOTH VIOLATED THEIR OATHS OF OFFICE. Why aren't they impeached yet???

Mary Landrieu's brother (I think) is the Lt. Governor of Louisiana and she wanted to punch Bush! Her brother was ALSO DERELICT IN HIS DUTY AND VIOLATED HIS OATH. Impeach Mary L's brother too.

That was my sick joke when we first found out about the buses.

That, the School buses and special drivers were reserved to driving the N O's voters around from voting place to voting place on election days.

Red,

The LSM has shown its true colors yet again. These idiots can't "handle the truth."

What a bunch of total lying jerks they are.

I don't disagree with your desire to have the President speak up against the massive lies about him.

I just disagree with your loss of respect for him for it. It's who he is. And he IS occupied with more important things than his own popularity.........a good thing, IMO. You too?

If I was a conspiracy theorist, I'd start believing that the state really did want those people dead.

Hoping to less on the doll, perhaps?

Thanks for the pings.
