Hey at least it knocked that annoying Cindy Sheehan off the RADAR. I couldn't stand another news cycle with her sour puss staring at me from every TV screen.

Beloved [No Longer Free State] was moved to write another vanity. It is as usual excellent and gives us something to ponder and fuel for discussion.

You can find his other vanities:

STOP Them Before They Commission Again!!!

Oh, No! NOT the football analogy!!!

The problem with the press - response to those who blame the Bush admin for the Gulf situation

Agreed on the opportunity viewpoint....

The loss of life not withstanding, New Orleans (specifically) got a much needed enema.

I just hope the reconstruction in the months and years to come proceeds with some applied smarts.

First of all let me thank you for your insightful article. You hit on the same points that my husband and I have been talking about. There is a great opportunity here for the Katrina victims who choose to make wine out of sour grapes. Even the very poor could create a better lives for themselves with the help of those who are willing to train them.

I'm hoping that your positive attitude, that many do share, will spread like delicious morels after a forest fire.

As for you question, "Do leaders engage in blame and recrimination as the first reaction to a problem?" Yes, sadly, many do. Ah, but then there are those who prefer to tackle the "problem" first. Those folks have their priorities in order.

Fellow Freepers:

At the suggestion of writer Michelle Malkin last Friday, I have cobbled together a blogsite called Texas Clearinghouse for Katrina Aid to serve as a clearinghouse for refugee efforts in Texas.

Texas is getting more refugees than any other state -- that's fine, we'll take them all -- but we need help providing them with food, clothing, medicine, and shelter. We need help taking care of their pets, too.

If you are a refugee, you can information that will help you find relief. If you want to donate or volunteer, you can find someone who needs you. Believe me, there are a lot of organizations who need your help.

Right now the site mostly covers Houston, San Antonio, and Dallas but I'm adding more every night. My wife was down at Reunion Arena in Dallas Tuesday handing out care packages and spiritually ministering to the refugees as a representative of her employer. She says that the situation is tragic and that there's a lot of work to be done. There are so many children who don't know where their parents are or even if their parents are still alive.

There are a lot of churches and other organizations in Texas that need help in dealing with the problem and I would appreciate it if you would get the word out.

Many thanks,

Michael McCullough

Threads appear in the order of latest postings..."bump" pushes a thread to the top of the page, allowing it to be seen by others.

If I could add something here, Houston astrodome and the reliant center still need volunteers. The refugees are moving out quickly, but as of today, there are still over 8,000 people in the astrodome alone, and many more in the other shelters right there in the complex. We were overrun with volunteers at first, but now people are getting tired. It is sometimes hard work, but very rewarding. Today we had only a trickle of people come in to help. We need volunteers both day and night, so please, anyone in the Houston area, if you have a few hours, go to the astrodome.

Mr. DallasMike, with your permission, I would like to post your link on a local Houston message board. It is frequented by many local people who are looking for ways to help out. I am sure they would appreciate the information you have provided.

Thanks, all, for your kind words. I'm very frustrated with the Petulant Pelossi's of the world who want to worry more about attacking their opponents and fixing blame, rather than attacking and fixing the problems.

Thankfully, millions of people share your view about the "Petulant Pelossi's". I think that is one of the reasons I enjoy logging on to FR. It provides me with hope, and the proof that not everyone in the world has gone crazy.
