Reminds me of the spiderman movie: right before 9/11 they were showing trailers in which Spidey stops a helicopter with a web spun between the twin towers. They pulled the trailer and edited out the scene.

They pulled the trailer and edited out the scene.I'm pretty sure -- though not positive -- that scene was never intended to be in the movie. For big-budget movies, the studios often hire a separate crew or production house to produce the early "teaser" trailers, sometimes using outtakes from the film, and sometimes shooting their own material.
