Proclaim National Preparedness Month in Louisiana
WHO: Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco, American Red Cross National President and Chief Executive Officer, Marty Evans, Superintendent of Louisiana State Police, Colonel Henry Whitehorn, Major General Bennett Landreneau of the Louisiana National Guard
WHAT: Governor Blanco, Marty Evans, Colonel Whitehorn , General Landreneau and representatives of the American Red Cross chapters across Louisiana will host a press conference to unveil Together We Prepare Louisiana. This public awareness campaign aims to teach Louisianians how to better prepare for natural and man-made disasters. Governor Blanco will also proclaim September to be National Preparedness Month in Louisiana.
WHERE: Governors Press Room, 4th Floor, State Capitol Building, Baton Rouge, LA
WHEN: September 15, 2004 at 2:00 p.m.
WHY: Together We Prepare Louisiana encourages individuals and families to take five action steps to become better prepared: 1. Make an evacuation plan; 2. Build a disaster supplies kit; 3. Get trained in First Aid and CPR; 4. Volunteer to help those affected by disasters; and 5. Give blood.
Surveys have shown that most families are not prepared for disasters. To help families be better prepared, Governor Blanco, the American Red Cross, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the National Association of Broadcasters and many other agencies, have partnered raise public awareness and proclaim September as National Preparedness Month.
