"I am all for protecting marriage. But how safe are society's standards if you give away the substance of marriage to gay partners?"
Not very safe, but the gay activists know this. They want more. They dont want the distinction left at all, they want to obliterate 'heterosexism' - dont ask, its a cultural marxist thing ya know. Leaving even a hint of traditional culture around is dangerous in their view.
" I mean if they have marriage by everything BUT the name, how is society better off? I'm really unclear on that."
Um, going 100% down the slippery slope is worse than going 90% is all I can say.

"We cannot have a system where the people vote and the Legislature derails that vote," The Demon Rats do that to us all the time here in Washington State.

No surprise. Except to those who HATE Arnold. Sadly, I don't expect anyone 'round here to give him any credit for sticking to the principles and position he campaigned on.

"I fully expect to see his poll numbers improve. Actually, look for all of his special election propositions to improve, too."
Hopefully he will parley this into a win for the redistricting measure.

Homosexuals are not DISCRIMINATED against, because being HETEROSEXUAL is not a prerequisite to get married. Not one State in the Union requires you to prove your heterosexual to get married. Gays can get married like anyone else, and like everyone else they must marry someone of the opposite sex.

I am sorry
Our assembly here in Tennessee does not really represent our conservative populace aaccurately either.
I think nowadays urban areas have the disproportionate influence...contrary to old days when the opposite was true.

It's illegal, likely. CA law is such that referendums cannot be trashed by the legislature, only by another referendum. Further, Prop 22 is currently LAW although it has been struck down by a SF judge. It *is* on appeal. So the legislature was on shaky legal ground here.
But now that they know they have the votes in the legislature you can bet this will be back just like the zombie "drivers licenses for illegals" from One-Bill-Gill.

The announcement dampened a celebratory mood among the bill's supporters, who only the night before cheered, hugged and kissed as the state Assembly narrowly sent the bill to the governor's desk.Is this a legislative body or a sex party? It is getting hard to tell the difference anymore...

Better ask H.Ridder Haggard, since it was he who wrote "SHE", which is where that term first appeared. :-)
