Leapfrog;
Andy and Bob are looking at sustained operations and mission planning. The military will take risks but the risks are part of the planning.
The lost of a helicopter and crew is really no great loss to the military as a whole but it does impact the ability of the unit to conduct it's operations. If the aircraft was only slightly damaged it would have to be recovered and repaired. Again taking resources that were dedicated to the primary mission.
A commander who starts to let independently minded pilots go off on their own will soon have no pilots around to command. They will all be off hot-doggin' it.
They stepped over the line, had a bit of an ass chewing and will get back in the thick of it.

Thank you. They stepped over the line (ever so slightly), and deserve KP duty for that reason.
However, they will smile the whole time, knowing they did the right thing.
