So if you are self-relant, smart enough to get out of Dodge and stay with relatives, etc., or even pay for hotel space far away from the path, then you're SOL?
I'd say the people floating in the water dead are the ones who are SOL.
Of course. What a country!

Probably not, I suspect this is just the first phase of the great vote buyoff - or disaster aid, as I guess the kids call it these days. Regardless, you couldn't pay me enough to have spent those days stuck in the superdome, so I'd gradly lose the 2K to have been self reliant and smart enough to have gotten out early.
patent
That's usually how it works.
I should catch a flight out with a few grand in my pocket. I bet I could buy these cards for a quarter on the dollar in the next day or two on the street.
Nope. FEMA has lots of goodies to hand out (grants, loans, living assistance, rent assistance, business assistance programs, food stamps, etc.) Worked well in Pensacola area after Ivan. Big boost to the economy. These people spend it all on local merchants at inflated prices. You know, the rich get richer. New Orleans will be booming in 6 months. Buy real estate there now, it will soon escalate like crazy.

Please ping me if you get an answer to your question. I have lots of friends who were displaced, but who are staying with friends or in hotels...
so are they paying the people that evacuated on their own also? Hope so.
Those who took responsibility for themselves, and bore the expense for getting themselves out will get squat.
Those who relied on government to take care of them get a payday.
