U.S. military response to Katrina both timely and proportionate
World Defense Review ^ | September 7, 2005 | Commander Mark Divine

With all the finger pointing going on over the "disastrous" disaster relief efforts on the part of the federal government, I thought it would be informative to share an exchange between a well-intentioned sideliner who is critical of the response time of the military to relief efforts in New Orleans, and a U.S. Naval officer.

And when there are new dangers, and new threats, you can bet that the brave men and women of our armed services (as well our military and civilian leadership) will work harder, and longer, and with selfless dedication to meet the new challenges.

But at least allow us a few hours to look before we leap, do to our homework, and to make sure the job we do will be our most effective and efficient effort.

There is no room to criticize our military on this response to Katrina disaster. ZERO. And the American people WILL NOT tolerate the least besmirching of the honor, professionalism, and care of our great military. They have no less than DONE US PROUD!!!!

The New York Times has apparently found a way to further insult the process...

There's a goof FR thread on this one as well...

I wish someone would make one of those stickers that shows this kid wizzin' on a copy of the NYT...

That would be one to buy...

Nice comparison but Andrew doesn't compare to Katrina in aftermath conditions. With Andrew local and state officials acted quickly and response was not hampered by a flooded disaster zone and most of the highways leading in were not blocked or destroyed (helicopters need fuel and the military needs food and water which means trucks and air transports). With Andrew locals maintained peace and order.

The military response to Katrina has been miraculous by any standard and anyone who says otherwise is an idiot.

"we call them Democrats"

Oh, that group...I don't even consider them Americans. They are the Blame America first crowd, Hate Bush crowd, so just generally Anti-American to the core.

Don't get me wrong, there are good Democrats, but that party has been hijacked by the looney, Anti-American crowd.

And yes, I do question their patriotism. Not only question it, I charge them with sedition.

We had a meeting last Friday night and the usual Freeper suspects were therean we pretty much prevailed in our opinion that:
1. Anyone living in a town 12' below sea level is stupid;
2. Anyone not heeding the call to remove themselves 5 days before the storm hit is stupid;
3. Anyone still remaining in the city 4, 3, 2, etc. days before the storm hit is stupid;
4. Anyone trusting dikes to keep out water is stupid;
5. Anyone trusting the Mayor of NO or the governor of LA (both dems) is stupid;
6. Anyone blaming the government because they were too stupid to leave is stupid;
7. Anyone blaming the government, particularly since it handed NO millions in past years to upgrade dikes, etc. which millions were promptly ripped off for the dem handouts and graft, is doubly, no make that triply stupid;
8. Anyone believng the government could effectively stage rescue, etc. efforts when everything for miles around is underwater is, you guessed it, stupid;
9. Anyone believing that the government should send thousands of people to a hole in the ocean, with no place to stage and no idea how bad it might get, is really, really, truly too stupid to breath.

Now, could we have done better, probably, but lets go to items 7, then 4 and then 5 and you have a recipe for calamity of major proportions. Sorry, i guess i just stated the obvious.

Your mistake was analyzing the problem as reasonably informed adults with at least average intelligence. Remember, you're dealing with the MSM here.

Fellow Freepers:

At the suggestion of writer Michelle Malkin last Friday, I have cobbled together a blogsite called Texas Clearinghouse for Katrina Aid to serve as a clearinghouse for refugee efforts in Texas.

Texas is getting more refugees than any other state -- that's fine, we'll take them all -- but we need help providing them with food, clothing, and shelter.

If you are a refugee, you can information that will help you find relief. If you want to donate or volunteer, you can find someone who needs you.

Right now the site mostly covers Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio but I will add various churches, schools, and other charities in Ft. Worth and Lubbock tonight. My wife spent yesterday at Reunion Arena in Dallas handing out care packages and otherwise ministering to the refugees as a representative of her employer.

There are a lot of churches and other organizations in Texas that need help in dealing with the problem and I would greatly appreciate it if you would get the word out.

Many thanks,

Michael McCullough

Stingray blogsite
