I don't care who he nominates, just get someone who can read the constitution and interpret it as our forefathers intended.

I think Specter is looking for someone younger and perkier, and more prone to sleep with the man holding the gavel at the committee hearings.

Brown sounds just perfect, then-a woman AND a minority-and being a conservative, I'll just bet she can read and understand the constitution, too...

I thought Specter's comments were pretty ridiculous. Janice Rogers Brown would be a good choice, though.

Janice Rogers Brown would be my first choice too, and just wait for the howls of outrage if President Bush appoints her.

I would love to hear him say, "I've decided to take Senator Spector's advice and appoint a woman." I would love that because Spector would all but curl up and die over that particular woman.

Talk about idiotic comments:

The committee's top Democrat, Sen. Patrick J. Leahy, D-Vt., agreed, noting that Canada's Supreme Court, which has nine members, has four women, including the chief justice.

"It works pretty good for them," he said. "I'd love to see something like that."

Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pa., chairman of the Judiciary Committee, said Tuesday that two women on the court "are a minimum,"...

Are they engaging is some kind of bizarre group sex orgies in the Supreme Court that require certain ratios of men and women for the various acts? If not, how is the sex of a jurist at all relevant?

Nah, I'd suggest Ann Coulter is on the short list just to see them go ballistic. THEN, I'd nominate Janice Rogers Brown.

..."a choice that could ease a difficult confirmation process."

With 55 Republican Senators and the constitutional option, I just don't see how anyone the president nominates would be that difficult to confirm. (Barring any ethical problems that are unearthed.)

The Democrats have been carrying on lately like they are the ones holding the winning cards. Are our guys really such wusses?

I agree with everyone who says the woman should be Janice Rogers Brown. Specter is a blabbermouth, powergrabbing, backstabbing RINO nincompoop. Be careful what you demand, Senator.

What's so "tough" about this?

Janice Rogers Brown.

See, that was easy!

...faces renewed pressure

What a load of crap. Bush will not appoint a woman because of pressure, he will do it because he wants to. If he appoints someone like JRB she will be confirmed in a cakewalk and the MSM and Dems (including Specter) know this; they want to be able to claim a victory of some sort... any sort counts at this point... so they push for someone he will apoint anyway and then take credit for forcing him to 'do the right thing'.

I would have elevated Thomas to replace Rhenquist and JRB to replace Thomas and let the Dems destroy both on TV while confirming the clean cut white guy with no problem.
