Kerrick had no business being in charge of National Homeland Security when he couldn't manage to keep and illegal out of his own home. Certainly we have more qualified Americans.

Bushwa. Kerrick was imminently qualified for the job. At least he's not incompetent like Nagin or Blanco. Nagin and Blanco shouldn't even BE in positions of power.

At least I can see the logic of the Dems going after Sec. Chertoff (don't like it, but can understand it). Hillary probably has it out for him. I have been a fan of his since his days as Special Counsel for the Senate Whitewater Committee. You could almost see the witnesses shaking when he was questioning them.

Some folks live in a dream world of Bewitched or the Twilight Zone.

BTW, I live somewhere in this universe, and I am hungry. Can you please come over to my house and bring me an apple?

"Hillary probably has it out for him"

Understatement of the day.

President Hillary will beef up FEMA and will make sure they know everything about everyone.

Not just know everything...they will also have the right to usurp power from state and local authorities.

By all means, let's take directions on what should be done from Shepherd Smith, Anderson Cooper, or Geraldo!

In this particular instance - the Convention Center SNAFU - hell yes, they - as in all of the emergency response organizations - should have done something based on what the media was reporting. Even an idiot like me can see that. They - Homeland Security and Emergency Management - both the state and the feds - screwed the pooch on this one.

SIEGEL: And our reporter said 2,000 people at the convention center without anything.

You know, to this day I keep hearing different numbers posted for the Superdome and Convention Center.

The day before Katrina - ~25,000 for the Superdome. Day of - they were saying 8,000 or 9,000. Post Katrina - back to 20,000 or 25,000.

Same with the Convention Center, although noone except Noggin knew anyone was going there, but I've heard anywhere from 15,000 to 20,000 and now this NPR reporter says 2,000.

Nobody really knows, they're all just throwing out guesses.

---What's with the 24/7 fire FEMA stuff?

I don't get it either. It's like Blanco and Nagin are getting a free pass in the media. The focus on FEMA, to me it seems, is a means to divert attention to the incompetency of Blanco and Nagin.---

Yes, it's just a deliberate political smear, something the Dims have a rare expertise in. Besides if everybody is to blame, then nobody is really to blame.

First, Nagin and Blanco are elected by the citizens. They got what they voted for. Kerrick was a good Police Commisioner, but he lacked in integrity. He knowingly hired an illegal alien in his position. That demonstates a type of decision making is not needed as head of homeland security. There are other qualified candidates for the position. Do you think he is the only one qualified?

Anyone who used NY Slimes or NPR as a "source" should lose all credibility.

This part of the whole episode could have been handled a hell of a lot better on all sides of the issue.

We don't know the half of this whole episode yet and you're ready to hand out grades? Well, I start with the mayor and governor...they failed at their assignment, first response. FEMA gets an incomplete since they are still at work on their assignment, which doesn't include first response.

I don't know who else knew about the convention center but I didn't hear anything about it until Thursday. My TV was on the news 90% of the time 7 am to 2 am. I visit FR numerous times daily.

Yeah? So? I know that. FEMA is not a "first responder".

No, but obviously you don't trust Bush's good judgement.

So, can we replace this dumbf*ck with Rudy?

I don't want to see Rudy as our nominee in '08 but he could do this job. Hell I could do this job.

Stop making excuses for the left. If DHS and FEMA officials spent a lionshare of their time getting their info from the media, they'd have little time to do their jobs.
