which one you are comfortable with

I think that is the point that Im trying to stress to newcomers. Gun advocates whine over cal and models, but the main point is have a weapon and be comfortable with it

You apparently are comfortable with a Glock.

Lauren seemed to be comfortable with a SW 5906 or Berreta 92

Y'all are some kinda lucky. In twenty years I haven't been able to get my wife interested in anything by pure basics.

Oh well. Maybe I'll have better luck with the young'n.

There are so many evacuees coming into our city that we have to rethink our way of life.

We have discussed the influx of people with our children . . . and explained that although some of them may be good folk, they need to keep their radar up.

I would stick with a 12 ga. for a shotgun. Even if you are recoil shy, a 12ga. shotshell can be loaded down to equal 20 ga. You will have a much better range of options with the 12 ga.

I prefer the mossburg 835 ulti-mag. It will hold six 2 3/4" shells, or five 3" or even 3 1/2" shells.

Dont screw arould racking in a shell to try to scare someone. Thats a great way to jam a gun in a panic situation. It should have a shell chambered, just keep the safety on untill ready to shoot.

Looks like we agree.

Thanks for what you do as a LEO. We have seen that the thin blue line is so very important.

Radar up indeed.

We have a small # here but 1/4 million?

Weve seen no problems here, honest folks with honest worries looking for a place to rest thier heads and get some info on thier relatives and jobs and schools.

But some areas are inundated and there is riff raff

"Thanks...Im writing that down....I have a pea shooter a 22 automatic...not much for self defense.." It may not be optimal, but no one will volunteer to be shot with one. It is not difficult to put 10 shots from a ruger 10/22 into the A zone of an IPSC target in 2.1 seconds at 7 yards. That's probably at least as good as a shot or 2 from a 357.

I'm with you on that approach. There are so many folks who believe that one needs a .454 Casull to stop a perp.

He's not coming around much at all. He's conjuring up images of paranoid gun owners shooting anything that moves. Not to say there aren't irresponsibile idiots in any group but gun owners tend to be super-responsible and level-headed, especially when it comes to pulling a trigger.

The basic difference between liberals and conservatives isn't paranoia. It's realism about what their fellow human beings are capable of. Liberals tend to live in a fantasy land where everyone is Good and no one will hurt you if you're just Sensitive enough and show enough Compassion and Understanding. Codswallop! Those are qualities we should all aspire to -- as long as we're carrying and ready for the significant percentage of miscreants who want to cut your heart out at first sight.

"A conservative is a liberal who's been mugged" is as true today as when it was first spoken many years ago -- sorry I can't recall who said it. Sometimes it takes a mugging to wake people up.

I like a 12 Ga for home defense but wouldnt recommend more than Turkeyshot for the average joe and maybe a 2 3/4 load of 00 buck at the end of the mag

The eternal optimist that I am says the same; the wife of Eaker that I am says to keep my guard up.

What that leaves is a person that will assume the best of folks, while her doors are locked and her gun is cocked.

That's kinda my point. She "owns" her pistol like I "own" my frying pans.

The only reason it's hers is because it's not mine.

She knows how to use it well enough. She can reload it. She just doesn't have any more affinity for it than with a bic ballpoint. (they still make those, right?)

I understand your point, my point was that the 835 gives you the option to load up to the limit and kill anything that walks the earth, or load it down to shoot rabbits.

I've sent a couple thousand rounds downrange since I got it ... No problems ... no misfires ... no jams ... I've since added a tactical light ... the weapon eats anything I feed it ... Even Wolf 9mm ... and my Hi-Power won't cycle Wolf ammo ... the image below was shot at 50 yards with the Kel-Tec, my Hi-Power, a .357, a S&W 9MM, and a Thompson SMG:

Other good things about it ... it folds up into a nice small package that can be easily slipped into a backpack or under a car seat. And the price is reasonable, a little over $300 new in a gun store.

Bad things: it is NOT LEGAL in several states, including CA and IL. Check your local laws.
