The Iraqi Army assumes control of Forward Operating Base Hotel in Najaf.
FORWARD OPERATING BASE KALSU, Iraq, Sept. 6, 2005 A ceremony celebrating the transfer of authority of Forward Operating Base Hotel and the anniversary of the end of hostile activities in Najaf was held at Forward Operating Base Hotel Sept. 6.
Members of 1st Battalion, 198th Armor, 155th Brigade Combat Team, II Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward) transferred authority of Forward Operating Base Hotel, Najaf, Iraq, to the 1st Brigade, 8th Division of the Iraqi Army.
The unit has assisted the people of Najaf since mid-January. Thirty-one projects, costing approximately $7.5 million, were funded to support the Provincial Reconstruction Development Committee. The projects included water and sanitation, education, transportation, humanitarian assistance, telecommunications, law and governance.
There are currently 75 projects emphasizing electricity, water, sanitation and healthcare in progress, totaling $37.8 million.
The Commanders Emergency Response Program, which focuses on emergency repairs of critical facilities and infrastructure shortfalls, funded 227 projects at a cost of $6 million.
The battalion will relocate to bases throughout the 155th Brigade Combat Team area of operations. Sufficient forces will be available to offer any assistance requested by the Iraqi Security Forces in control of Najaf and the surrounding area.
The 155th Brigade Combat Team is a U.S. Army unit assigned to the II Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward) in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
The process has begun, the masses dont realize how many Iraqis our guys have been training and preparing for this.
The masses don't, but some know very well and are really good at pretending.
arrrgggh....
Quagmire alert!!!
I just found out that one of the buildings we built for Iraqis 6 months ago has burned to the ground. Either someone was smoking in bed, or doing that neat trick of theirs where they strip wire and jam them into a wall socket.
$hit happens I guess...
when I moved into my house, I found a regular extension cord, not a heavy duty one, wired into a socket.
Bravo! Very much are celebrations in order!
Round of applause!
The media is deeply saddened...
