From what I read, he won't be getting a Catholic funeral, he'll be getting a Lutheran funeral in a Catholic church. So maybe some Episcopals will go Lutheran.
"Why not the National Cathedral?"
Good question. I hate sounding a like a religious prude, but I am an old school Catholic. The CJ was a great judge. But he was Protestant. The National Cathedral is a Protestant church. Go there.
You are too funny! :)
Very ECUSA!!! The National Cathedral is among the worst.
Now that I come to think about it, the Episcopalians are in "Full Concordance" with the liberal group of the Lutherans, I can't remember which one that is. Their priests can say mass in the Lutheran's churches and vice versa. This happened about five years ago to address areas like Minnesota where there are many Lutherans and few Piskies and other places where there are many Piskies and few Lutherans.
Aww, Shucks! How about stapling a shortened list, instead?
I'm sorry to sound disbelieving. I guess that was a inappropriate response. But I WISH the AAC was more prevalent. I don't even think there is one here in Houston, though I know of a small one in Richmond, about 45 minutes away.
ELCA
That said, as a Catholic I find it strange that they'd have a funeral from Rehnquist at a Catholic church. Surely there is a Lutheran church in D.C. large enough to accommodate the funeral of a high-ranking government official.
Well, there's Lutheran and then there's LUTHERAN. They have nothing in common except the name.
It's liberal. I was there once and the sermon was anti-Bush and anti-war. It was very offensive. I'll never worship there again, EVER.
I know a few priests from the Newark ad who really liked McCarrick, he always supported the priests, it was like a father/son relationship...
Fitting.
I was also sort of surprised they were not planning on using the National Cathedral. I've been to a couple of weddings there and it is a beautiful church.
" Not sure which branch the National Catherdral is. "
I had heard they were of the " Skip to the Loo " branch.
From the article:
'The directory, approved by Pope John Paul II in 1993, applies the principles in the Second Vatican Council's 1964 Decree on Ecumenism, which opened Catholicism to such cooperation with non-Catholics.
Catholic canon law limits use of churches to "things which serve the exercise or promotion of worship, piety or religion." '
The Episcopal Bishop of D.C. is a major Liberal.
He was the Dean of the Episcopal Cathedral in San Diego
and a real turn off.
Also there are different Lutheran Synods. The one
Rinquest was a member is liberal, mostly Sweds Danes, etc.
The Missouri Synod Lutherans are Conservative and mostly
from German background.
