There were shelters opened in other parts of the state or could have been opened as the need arose. We had several shelters opened for evacuees before the storm made landfall. There were several thousand here in the shelters, hotels, staying with family and various churches.

They simply did not execute the plan they had. All they had to do was to get to Baton Rouge and the other parts of the state that would not be in the path of the storm could transport people there. It was possible, difficult maybe but possible.

I see your screen name, and I hope you weren't offended by my Cajun joke...regarding the NO teachers in Texas.

Personally, I would much rather have the kids be taught anything but what they are being taught..which is if you are Mexican you DO NOT have to learn English...not to start a border spat on this thread).

Regarding evacuation....I heard on O'Reilly tonight, an official said that NO had a hurricane "drill" last year...don't you think that the subject of where to evacuate the citizens of NO would have been discussed then.

I just cannot beleive that there was no where that would take them...per Geraldo!
