I asked before and no one can answer. What did they do with homeland security money?

Whew.... I sure hope they reunite them. I was really concerned to read the police were putting the dogs into the stairwell at the dome and many didn't survive.

That's a good question. It certainly wasn't spent on satellite phones so that police and fire and city officials could communicate.

The bulk of it likely went into a variety of pockets.

I thought that dog looked like a Bichon, and, sure enough, he was.

I thought the bichon was in the governor's mansion in Baton Rouge...

That's pathetic. That's not the plan of any Florida city that I know of, which is why there are so few hurricane deaths there.

Well said. Of course, that is not the plan of any Texas coastal city either. So Florida and Texas have their acts together and New Orleans and Louisiana are governed by the criminally negligent. Reminds one of the Edwards campaign "Elect the Crook".

What percentage of the Miami population evac'd before Andrew struck?

What percentage of the poor or disabled were evac'd using public transportation resources?

I don't know. But I'm guessing you'd find not many.

They were lucky it didn't slam into Miami proper. Landfall at Liberty City would've been mighty ugly.

According to one wacko extremist report the black people in NO resorted to cannibalism. How lucky for all those dogs that are walking around that there weren't more Asians going hungry...

That is the most wonderful news and an answer to the prayers of thousands -- especially the prayers of children who have heard this story in horror.

CNN
3:12 pm

From Reporter in field -
Packs of dogs all over the city. He and crew saw a pack of six Labrador retrievers all with collars - walking on Interstate 10.

"Obviously pets." The reporter gave them some water.

And that is what concerns me. We know the money that has been going there for years and years has been no better than walking to the top of the Empire State Building and throwing it in the wind.

My fear is, not the black caucus is demanding they control the FEMA and Red Cross funds flowing into the are, that this money is going to be pee'd away becaue of corruption and will not help the people who desperately need help.

The entire state of Louisiana, and especially New Orleans, has this "les bon temps rouillier" attitude.

To not even attempt to get the poor and carless out of the city is criminal. School bus routes are run all over the city, every day, and some of these same buses are used to get people to the polls on election day. Why not use those routes and get as many as you can?

Obviously, everybody is not going to leave (there are those there NOW who won't leave), but one should do as much as possible.

My guess would be to look at second homes bought by officials, lavish vacations, or maybe just paying for their crack... They certainly didn't spend it on Iridium phones in order to maintain command and control. The starting salary of a Nola policeman is only $300 a week I understand -- so the money didn't wind up there.
