The dark side of black people
Jamaica Star ^ | Leighton Levy

Posted on 09/06/2005 5:20:49 AM PDT by jmc1969

LET ME START by saying that if I had my life to live over a thousand times, the one thing I would not change would be my race. I am proud to be a black man. There are times however, when I wish that certain people and I did not share that trait.

For the past few days, the whole world ... well, at least those who have access to satellite and cable television, have been seeing pictures of the virtually total devastation of the cities of the U.S. Gulf Coast by Hurricane Katrina. An estimated 90 per cent of homes in New Orleans have been destroyed by flood waters and more than 100 people have been confirmed dead.

We see people standing on the roofs of their submerged homes desperate to be rescued, others being airlifted to safety, and we have heard tear-jerking stories of families losing their loved ones. But in all of this, we have also seen the really dark side of black people.

The day after the hurricane passed, there were reports of looting but network reporters had been saying that people were looting out of desperation, in search of food and water. A lot they knew.

The pictures I have been seeing are of people - black people - stealing shoes, diapers, and television sets. Not food and definitely not water. Not unless the armfuls of clothing, shoes, and appliances I see people wading through the streets with count as food and water.

Now, if all the looters were looting out of desperation, how desperate were the guy and girls I saw toting several boxes of size 13 Nikes? How desperate was the fellow with the stack of diapers? What, is it that he has several babies at home suffering from loose bowels? What am I talking about, what home? Everything is under water and what isn't, has been totally destroyed.

Plasma TV?

And just what are those guys stealing the plasma television sets going to be watching when there is no power in the entire city?

Desperation? Yeah, right. I am beginning to believe that black people, no matter where in the world they are, are cursed with a genetic predisposition to steal, murder, and create mayhem.

The entire firearm department at a Wal-Mart department store, for example, was cleaned out and the looters used the stolen weapons to rob people. How low is that? Everybody is suffering and the black people would seek to rob people who are suffering just like themselves.

No white looters?

And it has nothing to do with poverty. Where are the white people in all this? I am sure there are poor white people living in New Orleans, Biloxi and the other towns affected by what has been going on. Is it that the media are not showing pictures of them looting and robbing? Or is it that they are too busy trying to stay alive, waiting to be rescued, and hiding from the blacks.

And you know what? Even if the poor whites were looting and robbing, wouldn't it be nice if the blacks could have made them the only ones doing it

Just once, I would like for us blacks to take the high road in situations like this, where instead of showing our darkest side, we put our best foot forward. But I guess that would be too much to ask, too much of a case of wishful thinking.

If a white male wrote this he would be tarred and feathered as a racist Nazi. But a black person can write this up, call it as he sees it and nobody breaks out the buckets and chickens. Very interesting.

It's not interesting at all, once you consider the fact that this is a Jamaican author.

Buckets and chickens. That's cute.

I don't think it's unlike "consultant" syndrome, though....if a local consultant tells the Gotham City Council what's wrong with the city and how to fix it, it will be more palatible and accepted to Gotham's residents than if an out-of-town consultant does it.

Encouraging dependency on government largesse has bought the Democrat Party a whole lot of votes.

But President Clinton was finally forced to sign "welfare reform" into law a few years ago, with limits placed on the length of time a "family" can receive welfare payments.

Dems are pushing "disability" as a stand-in to keep dependency going. They instinctively know if blacks get on their feet the gravy train of "votes for nothing" is over.

I agree that is not purely based on color, but color and culture are intertwined, at least in most parts of the US.

Therefore, you're saying that culture is genetic.

Educator says blacks underachieve - "Do you think so low of yourself….?" ***

''I don't like you segregating us like this,'' one student told White during a question-and-answer session. ''You know what I mean, calling us bad or whatever. I think you should have something like this after school.''

White was unswayed: ''You're in school. I run this school, and I meet with you when I want to.'' Parents in the back clapped and nodded. ''That's right!'' said a few, calling out as if they were in church. White said he knew that some students in the crowd were making straight A's, but he wanted them to help boost the performance of the others.

One student asked the superintendent if any other Indiana school districts were hosting similar convocations. White is one of only three black superintendents in Indiana's 293 school districts. White superintendents tell him they would be accused of prejudice or profiling if they targeted black boys to improve their academic performance. ''To me, it's the truth,'' White said. ''The truth will set you free.''***

I would say because poor blacks have been raised as victims of everything. The really sad thing is that victims are passively assured that there is nothing they can do to empower themselves. Think how mad you get when there is injustice and you aren't able to affect the outcome and think of a whole life feeling that frustration.

Those who have convinced blacks that they are victims, by holding their hands through a welfare systen which keeps them safe but poor, (liberals) are the real purveyors of racial injustice. Liberals have taken the can do spirit from them and have kept them on the plantation by taking away their dignity and their empowerment. Just look at the only black spokesmen who get on the news, Sharpton, Jackson. Its all about victimhood, its all about powerlessness disguised as political activism. Its all about constructing a huge chip on their shoulder to remind them that they are victims.

The Democrats pander to that anger to fan the flames against anyone who is perceived to have a better life, ie "Tax breaks for the rich." and then call anyone who goes against them racist. There is nothing wrong with blacks as a race the fault lies with a worldwide culture which is so afraid of being racist that they try to buy them off instead of empowering them. IOW, they bring them the fish and never teach them or encourage them to fish because they would then leave the plantation on their own.

LOL, I noted that too. Alot of very clean shoes and tshirts too. Hats with the tag on and yesterday a couple being interviewed, she had a hat with tag and a big diamond ring,
when camera came back on her she had her arms crossed.
I'm not saying she took anything. Just an observation.

When a white commits a crime, do we worry about the stain he leaves on our race?

If the white man commits the crime in the name of his race, then it does, and they are roundly condemned by other whites.

It is the lack of condemnation by other blacks that makes this article even note worthy. There are few and far between because it is not politically correct to be critical of blacks.

The most recent example is what happened to Bill Cosby when he pointed out the obvious.

No one should get a pass on bad behavior regardless of their circumstance. You want to be judged as an individual, then take responsibily for your action as an idividual and condemn those that use their race as an excuse for everything.

Life is hard and is seldom fair, but blaming others for your circumstances does not make it better, and never justifies bad behavior.

There is one thing that is socieities fault. We have allowed our guilt keep us silent for too long. It is not racist to point out that having children out of wedlock is not good for the mother or the children (or society).

It is not racist to say that staying in school and getting an education is better then dropping out and living on the street.

It is not racist to say dealing in drugs is no way to have a good and long life.

It is not racist to say that the best way to fit into American middle class is to look, talk and act like the middle class.

It is not racist to point out that while a very few individuals get very rich playing sports for a living, you would be better off learning a trade.

It is not racist to point out crime, in the end does not pay.

You want the good life? Stay in school, wait until you are married to have children, learn a trade, do not do drugs, and obey the laws of your community.

It has nothing to do with being black, white, red, yellow, or what ever. There are millions of successful individuals in this nation that have overcomed descrimination and poverty. But to do it, you only need to know one thing, it is up to you, no one else can give it to you, and certainly the governement can not give it to you.

No, I'm saying that groups self segregate or are segregated based on certain characteristics and that these groups develop their own set of values and identity over time.

"Race" is probably the most obvious and powerful characteristic, but it goes beyond that.

Sin, culture, race: these things are all more or less genetic, only they are not always determinatively genetic.

How is sin genetic? Are you saying that some people lack free well and cannot help but be rapists, murderers, adulterers, liars, etc.? What is the larceny gene?

How is sin genetic?

Since Adam's fall, all men are born into sin. You can't get perfection from imperfection. Adam lost his perfect state.

Are you saying that some people lack free well and cannot help but be rapists, murderers, adulterers, liars, etc.?

There is no genetic disposition to do these things. They are all indicative of a person's spiritual state.

What is the larceny gene?

Right. There's no such thing, as there is no such thing as a culture gene.

Culture is not genetic.

my brigade commander in Somalia was Col. William Ward--now a 2-star Major-General coordinating US/Israeli military issues.

He was one tough cookie--my buddies to this day have never forgotten his infamous "discipline, discipline, discipline" speech he gave to us before we deployed.

2nd Battalion 14th Infantry regiment was perhaps the most disciplined unit to serve in Mogadishu!
