Bush, Blanco spar over military, visit - Blanco says Army brought attitude, not resources (absurd)

BATON ROUGE - Even as teams of engineers worked to patch ruptured levees in New Orleans, a political breach opened between Gov. Kathleen Blanco and President Bush over who is in charge of the post-Hurricane Katrina recovery effort.

One flashpoint came over the weekend, when Blanco said she rebuffed an attempt by the White House to seize control of the mounting military presence in Louisiana, including thousands of state National Guard forces under her authority. Then Bush made an unusual return visit to the state Monday, just days after surveying the damage - a trip that members of Blanco's staff said caught them by surprise and caused a certain level of consternation.

"We had no idea the president was coming," said Blanco's communications director, Robert Mann, adding that the governor was forced to cancel a trip to visit evacuees in Houston so she could meet with Bush.

In the game of political maneuvering for control between Blanco, a Democrat, and Bush, a Republican, the biggest chess pieces are the 13,268 National Guard troops from 29 states under the governor's command - with another 7,845 on the way - and the 7,000 active-duty troops who began arriving Monday under command of the regular Army and the president.

- - -

Blanco said that when the plain-spoken, cigar-chomping Honore showed up in New Orleans late last week, she thought that her worries about a lack of federal troops and resource were over. Honore quickly became a media darling and the take-charge face of the federal government in New Orleans, barking out orders to surprised National Guards members who aren't even under his control.

Wildcat's comment was true, Rush's false not to mention idiotic.

I disagree. First ESPN had told him that they had hired him to be acerbic and that he was not being confrontational enouh. So, he said what he said about the media taking it easy on Donavan McNabb because of his race. That was true.

Rush doesn't need me to defend him. His work stands on its own.

I was just listening to Brit Hume, and he said that Gov Blanko said she rejected the administration's legal offer to take over the effort because it was too complex. I'm speechless. What a stupid brain dead liberal woman. While she dithered people died.

No it was false. There were several black qbs and they were not touted as was McNabb. He is popular because he is an outstanding individual on and off the field.

Rush blew it but that is just as well.

You obviously don't know what Rush said. I do. Look it up and you will see that you are wrong. That is, if you care to be honest about what you see. Don't look up what the media says about it, look up what Rush actually said.

You have stated what Rush said and it is simply false that the media was soft on McNabb because he is black. Does it go easy to TO because he is Black? Or Phillips? or Moss? or any of the other dumbasses? No.

McNabb is an outstanding person and player who gets his fair share of criticism. The idea of a Philadelphia newspaper going easy on a player simply shows he does not know Philadelphia.

Besides that original dumb comment reeks coming from a Steeler fan.

It's not over yet . I predict that Jesse Jackson or Maxine Waters will demand a million dollars reparation per hurricane victim . Mark my word and note that I said it first here on FR

"City of New Orleans failed to deploy their arsenal of school buses "
You would NOT believe how many people I talked to that NEVER knew about the unused school busses in NO( or most of the other screw ups made by the mayor of NO). The MSM must be really filtering the facts out of their "news " stories.

It's almost hilarious to see Hilary Rodham trying to make a political prism out of the storm disaster. She fails to notice that her liberals are to blame (i.e. The Louisiana Governor).

A terrific idea would be to inform the liberal bias news media that we will write their sponsors and threaten to boycott their goods if the liberal media continues to bash President Bush and the troops.

McNabb had not been playing too well at the time Rush made his comment. They critisize TO because they learned a lesson from Rush's criticism of them.
