Perhaps you'd like to consider the medium-term and long-term consequences of this, for example effects on oil supply and the economy, to name but two.
Consider this. 1.5 billion dollars every single week. Is that consequential enough for ya. Lets call that one mid term.
Long term is Iran, in that Iran is trying to get into the Nuke Club. And if we stay in Iraq playing Nam redux, we will end up with a Nuclear Iran.
Time is not on our side. We need to take out Syria and Iran. Do that and you'll have plenty of oil, don't and Iran could end up nuking a couple of Persian Gulf neighbors like Kuwait. THAT would cause real oil problems.

Don't panic, as the government isn't panicking either. It knew the war would cost this much, so it's no big deal. If they hadn't planned to spend that much, the US shouldn't have gone into Iraq in the first place. And war against Iran and/or Syria would be even more expensive! In any case, they're no great threat even if they do get nukes (which they won't for a good few years). Plenty of time to take care of that when it happens.
War against them would NOT mean plenty of oil, but the opposite.
What the US needs to do is get Iran on its side; after all, since the USA needs the Shia in Iraq, making war on Iran would not be very wise at all. The US really needs Iran as an ally, and Syria too for that matter!
As for the 1.5 billion $, I don't mind since I'm not American :-D.
