..The incompetence of NO and LA officials in mind-boggling...
I would argue you are not only wrong but completely misunderstand the situation. The same is true for the misguided docs from NC.
NO is an evacuated city and no aid is being given to people there. To get aid you must evacuate to a shelter or other protected area. The doctors went to the wrong place. Had they gone elsewhere in the disaster area they would have been welcomed.
The message is that NO is being purposely emptied of people to insure that the needed services can and will be delivered. That is not possible within NO.

Had they gone elsewhere in the disaster area they would have been welcomed. The correct reponse would have been to say "You need to set up at XXX (where XXX is the place where evacuees are processed and triaged prior to being sent on), and Officer Smith here will guide you to where you can set up"
Pissing away a 100-man MASH unit is NOT my idea of good resource utilization

There is no evidence that didn't happen. The good doc didn't want to hear it. He wanted to go to NOLA. He is a Chapel Hill blue zoner....he wanted the press for being turned away.
He wanted to tell the tale till his dying day about how the he was rebuffed.

The Red Cross is in charge of most of the on ground relief folks that are non military, is my understanding.
They are trying to register all volunteers working in shelters, which is a good idea, the problem is, with communications wiped out, many had to sit and wait.
Red Cross signed a waiver at the largest center in BRLA allowing the Dr's to provide care. The red Cross is only authorized to provide band-aid care to these folks and so many need so much more.
Freeper amom is in BRLA at a small shelter at the edge of town. It is running like clockwork. Everyone is helping to cook, unload trucks, clean, etc. Kids are registering for school, the best thing for those from this disaster is to keep busy and most want to.
I live in Texas and I'm amazed at the organizations here for these folks. I think we have done a good job, but any volunteer has to register and have a background check, standard procedure for most agencies.
As an aside, most helping organizations are very good at raising money and the "best" people in town do so, but when disaster strikes, we need people with actual organizational skills, the owners and managers of businesses who can sort through the STUFF and issue orders to others.
Sorry for the rant.

ROFLOL -- that is one of the best laughs I've had since Sean Penn's boat tried to sink!

My prayers are sent for those who have been left to hold the front lines. May God give them the strength to overcome all that they have witnessed and the courage to tell the whole truth no matter how ugly it is.
60,000 is mind boggling.

First a question. Is that an email addressed to YOU, from your friend? Please understand I'm asking because of the rumors of rumors going around.
Thank you for sharing the information, it's quite amazing that written messages can be sent around the world from inside a city in such staights. PLease tell your friend the country is proud of his service to the people of NO. I hope the best for you too TennTuxedo.
To: JerseyHighlander
No, the email is addressed to my friend from his friend who is a police officer in New Orleans.

Maybe they will try and use them for survivors.
They could float them out of the city!

Sean Penn was a perfect exsample of what happens when liberals try to take charge. Left the plug out of the bat. What goof.
