Even now this guy has no grasp on reality. Makes me think NO really was in a totally different world from the rest of us.

Can NO afford this? I understand about time off for rest but it's nothing our soldiers aren't going thru every day.

I wouldn't be surprised if the money comes from diverted funds intended for the rescue effort in N.O.

The officials were planning to send 1,500 workers out in two shifts for five days each. They are sending them to Las Vegas because of the availability of hotel rooms and to Atlanta because many of them had relatives there.New Orleans officials said they would remain in charge. Mr. Riley, who has been on the police force for 24 years, will oversee the police department in the superintendent's absence.
"We haven't turned over control of the city," Colonel Ebbert said.
They want to be in charge of their personnel without being responsible for their personnel, or doing any dirty work, but are willing to dole out five-day vacations to Las Vegas at taxpayer expense.

This is going to go over well with the 250,000 "refugees" in shelters scattered across the US. After this fiasco from the city and State government a convicted pedophile could get elected to replace these nit wits!

Notice how the NYT uses the 200 desertion number to protect mayor Idi Nagin. On an earlier FR thread, Michelle Malkin has an interview with a general who says more than two thirds deserted.

How about offering the same vacation to the people who suffered and lost everything because of inept response from the city hall and the local police dept?

Just curious.
How many of Giuliani's police and firefighters deserted?
Yeah, that's what I thought.

Thanks for the tip. I guess Nagin is doing this so the cops can fence their loot and gamble in the casinos.

The idiocy of this just stupefies me. We don't even do that for soldiers returning from Iraq after 18 months! Even giving them the benefit of the doubt that they definitely are traumatized, considering they've probably lost everything they have as well... what do we give someone who only has the clothes on his back? I've got it! A trip to Vegas where he can spend the last $50 he has in his back pocket.
Sheesh!

Did Giuliani offer trips to the firefighters & police DURING 9/11 cleanup?!!!
This guy is a LUNATIC! If anyone wonders why N.O. wasn't ready for Katrina this should tell them all they need to know.
Shouldn't he spend the money on the victims of the hurricane instead of VACATIONS to LAS VEGAS?!
