Crap.
Senate Homeland Security Committee officials announced late Friday they will begin an investigation this week into the catastrophe and have ordered officials to brief the panel Wednesday.
The oversight panel will look at ongoing efforts to rescue and comfort victims, and will not address preparedness and response questions until after the rescue mission ends.
"It is critical that we in the Senate do everything in our power to strengthen the federal government's response, and that we thoroughly examine what appears to be breakdowns in preparedness for and responses to disasters, without interfering with efforts that are currently under way," Sens. Susan Collins, Maine Republican and committee chair, and Joe Lieberman, Connecticut Democrat and ranking member, said in a joint statement.
BRING IT ON!
Susan Collins is in charge of the Homeland Security Committee in the Senate? Is that based on qualification, or seniority?
That is one pathetic group of Senators. Seriously, Lieberman might be the best of that bunch. (of course, I'm not sure 5 years is enough to get the Gore stink off of him.)
Splineless on both sides.
Thank you, Howlin, for posting this list. Everyone must flood all the members of this committee demanding to know where the funds went in LA that were supposed to prepare the state for an emergency. Those were federal funds and they must be accounted for. What is the system of accountability that this committee has in place to see that Homeland Security funds are being spent on preparedness? Obviously, this committee was not doing its job either. They need to be put on the hot seat as well.
Yeah, that's pretty pathetic. Norm and Tom are pretty good, but the rest are frightening.
The only saving grace is that they know if they try to pin this on Bush, every future president and every future senator will have their necks on the line for any possible disaster that hits in the future.
Nevermind, there are few on that committee who are smart enough to figure that one out until it's too late.
That is a polite way to say it. What a bunch of losers!
That's one weak senatorial committee.
The Homeland Security Committe has MORONS like Chafee..Collins...Levin...Akaka...and the Laut?!?!
G_D HELP US ALL! Now it's NOT a joke...but tragically funny nevertheless...
"We're Doomed!"
Just goes to show its not who you know it is who you sleep with.
If Dayton is on the Homeland Security Committe, God help us. He's the biggest socialist pansy chicken in a State full of them. You may remember Markie being the only Senator to close his office and run home when briefed on a threat analysis. (/sarcasm That's the caliber of people we need in charge of a disaster./endsarc)
What the H are these people thinking. The only saving grace is that he has announced that he is not seeking a second term.
OK I feel better now.
Think I'll go out and purchase another case of ammo this afternoon.
Collins, Chafee, Voinovavich, Stevens...ai yi yi!
Could be worse. Hillary, Teddy, Landrieu and Kerry could be on the committee.
