You know, I don't get this "fall on your sword for democrat incompetency" , of Republican's. If this is true, it should be shouted from the rooftops.
This has nothing to do with having a "new tone" of cooperation with the opposing party. This is about incompetence, and callousness, on the part of elected officials, that led to horrendous suffering and loss of life. The people have a right to know what happened.
The next time someone asks president Bush, or any pubbie-"Why didn't you get federal help there sooner?"- the answer is- "We offered the gov. of NOLA federal assistance on Friday, before the storm hit, it was turned down". If the gov. still hasn't declared an emergency, (as I read somewhere)- or what day she did turn power/control over to the feds-(and how succesul it was, once it reached the scene-how many rescued, in how much time,exc.. the people should be told that too.
Any questions having to do with the governor of NOLA can simply be answered:"You'll have to ask the governor about that". Simple really. It's always best to tell people the truth, and let the chips fall where they may.
WHAT YOU SAID
BINGO! This lack of a plan of evacuation and what not, has more to do with the incompetency of the elected officials in the mayors office.

Right again, and furthermore, Blanco and Nagin issued a "voluntary" evacuation, whereas President Bush issued the "mandatory" evacuation of Louisiana residents before the Governor issued the "voluntary" evacuation. The incompetency factor goes far and wide as far as the Louisiana Democrats are concerned.
